AFL1 Roundup - 27th May

Mon, 29th May 2017

Thomas Davis, St Jude’s and St Sylvester’s were the big winners on Saturday, as a full round of Adult Football League Division One fixtures took place in testing weather conditions.

Davis required a dramatic last-minute goal from Chris Sallier to secure a one-point victory over Kilmacud Crokes last Tuesday, but they registered a comprehensive 5-20 to 1-9 triumph over Cuala at Kiltipper Road in their fifth league game of 2017.

Jude’s also recorded a win at the expense of Cuala in their midweek outing, and they maintained their recent good form with a 3-16 to 1-8 victory against Lucan Sarsfields in Tymon Park.

Ballymun Kickhams were level on points with St Sylvester’s heading into their Saturday meeting at Broomfield, and after they trailed by a single score (0-6 to 1-2) at the midway stage in the contest, they ultimately suffered a 0-17 to 2-5 loss against Jack Sheedy’s men.

This means that Davis, Jude’s and Syls remain at the summit of the table with eight points apiece, and following their 2-11 to 0-9 success over Na Fianna in Russell Park, Brigid’s have moved into fourth place in the top-flight table.

Elsewhere, despite facing into a three-point deficit in the latter stages of their away clash with Skerries Harps, a successful stoppage-time free from Chris Carthy helped Naomh Maur to claim their second consecutive league draw.

Fresh from their home reversal to Skerries last Wednesday, defending champions Ballyboden St Enda’s returned to winning ways with five points to spare (0-12 to 1-4) against Castleknock in Somerton Park, while St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh (1-16 to 0-8) and Kilmacud Crokes with strong performances from Shane Cunningham and Mark Vaughan (2-10 to 0-9) enjoyed successful away assignments against Clontarf and St Vincent’s respectively.
