Dublin North oust South in Leinster Colleges qualifier

Mon, 30th January 2017

Dublin North will face a highly-rated Kilkenny CBS in the Top Oil Leinster Post-Primary SHC ‘A’ quarter-final following their 1-14 to 1-9 victory over Dublin South at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.

The North exploded from the blocks and raced 0-6 to 0-0 clear inside the opening 15 minutes with Billy Ryan, who shot 0-4 from play over the hour, and Seán Currie to the fore.

However, Dublin South eventually found their feet with the accuracy of the impressive Liam Murphy cutting into the deficit.

Just before the interval the South got the perfect fillip when keeper Conor O’Donoghue rifled a penalty to the net past Josh Rooney after Liam Murphy had been fouled to bring the sides level, 1-6 to 0-9.

The exchanges were tight and scores hard to come on the restart but the crucial score came with ten minutes remaining when the influential Seán Currie scored a brilliant goal following clever play by Seán Clerkin.

Billy Ryan and Seán Currie, who scored 1-5 from play and a free overall, tagged on the insurance scores as the North progressed.

Best for the North were Seán Currie, Billy Ryan, Eoghan O’Neill, Kevin Burke and Ben McHugh while Liam Murphy and Davy Keogh stood out for Dublin South.
