Hopefully this is a learning experience: Mattie Kenny

Mon, 30th November 2015

Cuala manager, Mattie Kenny, hopes his side can put the disappointment of losing Sunday's AIB Leinster Club SHC final behind them and come back stronger next year.

The Dalkey men were beaten 2-13 to 0-13 by Wexford's Oulart-The Ballagh with the concession of the two goals leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second half.

“Their first target was to win a county title - they did that,” says Mattie Kenny.

“We put two good performances together in Leinster and we came wanting to win, and we are going home bitterly disappointed. Days like today you don’t see too many positives, the disappointment is huge.

“But these guys are a young bunch of players and the average age of that team is 22 or 23. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for them and they can build on this.

“They have to go back into Dublin next year and it’s very hard to get out of your county before you can get back into the provincial championship. When you get to provincial deciders or any final you have to win them, because you don’t know when you will be back.”

“From the start to the end, they were worthy winners. The goals were pivotal but they were the better team."
