League win of no relevance: Philly McMahon

Thu, 27th August 2015

Dublin defender Philly McMahon says that his side's victory over Mayo in this year's National League has no relevance to Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

The Dubs travelled to Castlebar back in mid-March and emerged 2-18 to 0-10 victors at a time when the Connacht champions were not in serious training.

"That day Mayo decided to go very offensive against us and left a lot of space at the back,” says Philly. “It just clicked nicely in that game.”

“They are not going to do that now, there’s no way. Even though we beat them well that day, they probably learned a massive amount about how we play or they play.

“Obviously they’ve proved they have changed to get to the All-Ireland semi-final now so I don’t think we can expect what they done that day to happen in the semi-final.”

Mayo selected their team on Wednesday night for Sunday's full-house semi-final (3.30) with Chris Barrett replacing the hamstrung Tom Cunniffe.
