Round-up of Adult Football League Division 1

Round-up of Adult Football League Division 1

Mon, 13th April 2015

A round-up of Saturday evening's AFL1 games across Dublin.

Parnell's v St Brigid's:

Parnells remain rooted to the bottom of AFL1 after facing a 4th defeat at the hands of Brigid's. Brigid's were the more economical side with only 4 wides v Nells with 11. Philly Ryan was the star from Saturday evening's clash with an impressive total of 2-3. Cian Mullins had a fierce battle with Colm Begley with no outright winner in midfield. The game ended Brigid's 2-11 Parnells 0-8.

St Maur's v Thomas Davis:

Thomas Davis have found their way out of the dark depths of the bottom of AFL 1 with win in Rush that has brought them to mid-table. Maur's who are normally formidable on home turf tasted defeat for the second time this year. Maur's have only registered a point with a draw away to Jude's, they may find themselves in a dogfight after making the League final last year. There was a 5 point margin, Thomas Davis winning 3-6 to 0-10.

Ballyboden v St Vincent's:

Ballyboden overcame St Vincent’s on Saturday evening in Pairc Ui Mhurchu. The home side started well and had solid performances from Declan O’Mahony, Sam Maloney and Andrew Kerins as they finished the first half strongly to lead 1-9 to 4 points at the half. An early second half goal gave them a comfortable lead and although Shane Carthy fired a goal for Vins the second half charge never really materialised for the Marino men. Boden now have 7 points from 4 games and are standing on top of the pile with Crokes while Vins have 4 points from 3 games played. Final score: 2-13 to 1-07.

St Oliver Plunkett's ER v Raheny:

Plunkett's were convincing winners over Raheny in Martin Savage Park. Alan Brogan orchestrated the demolition job from center forward. Plunketts won by 18 scoring an impressive five goals. The game finished 5-11 to 1-8

Cuala v Na Fianna:

A day to forget in Bray for newly promoted Cuala, as they lost by a staggering 7 goals to Na Fianna. The flood gates opened in the 2nd half with five goals raining in. Na Fianna showed why they're reigning AFL 1 champs with an emphatic victory. Na Fianna attacked in waves and produced overlap goals aplenty. Paddy Quinn was a force in the middle for Na Fianna and Cuala had one player who shone through, Matthew Clancy who kept the scoreboard ticking over. Cuala's misery ended with a scoreline of 8-12 to 1-12. They'll need to learn quickly from mistakes to try stay in the top flight.

Kilmacud Crokes v St Jude's:

Crokes have continued on their upward trajectory and have reached the top of AFL 1 with 7 points from 4 games, while Crokes are yet to lose, Judes haven't produced a win in 4 games only 2 draws. Crokes are being well and truly lead by their club captain Craig Dias. Crokes won 1-13 to 0-8 in an earlier then scheduled tie at 4 in Glenalbyn.

St Sylvesters' v Templeogue SS:

Syls clocked up their first win of the league campaign winning by 8 on their own patch in Broomfield against Templeogue. Without the likes of Denis Bastick (Dublin duty) in the middle and the O' Gara brothers Eoghan and Killian (injured) inside, it leaves TSS very short. It's going to be a tough task without having players of that caliber readily at their disposal. It was the only goalless encounter of the weekend, it finished Slys 0-14 TSS 0-6.

Fingal Ravens v Ballymun Kickhams:

Fingal Ravens claimed a vital scalp on Saturday, taking down a seasoned Ballymun team minus a strong contingent on Dublin duty though. Ravens have made a solid start after regaining Div 1 status and are looking likely to hold their place for another year at the top. They saw off Ballymun by a score line of 3-9 to 2-8 in their fortress that is Rolestown!
