Senior hurlers determined to grab back-door opportunity

Senior hurlers determined to grab back-door opportunity

Wed, 29th June 2016

Saturday is Redemption Day for Dubiln's senior hurlers according to forward Mark Schutte as Ger Cunningham's men prepare to face Cork in Saturday's night's All-Ireland SHC qualifier in Páirc Uí Rinn (7.0).

The Dubs were outclassed in the second half of their Leinster SHC semi-final against Kilkenny almost three weeks ago and Saturday's back-door opportunity presents them with the chance to make amends.

“Everyone is disappointed the way it ended against Kilkenny and you don’t want to end your season like that," says Mark, who missed the game against the Cats owing to injury.

“It’s great that we have another chance to prove ourselves again.

“It’s great to get another shot at it now and not leave the summer like we did against Kilkenny," adds the Cuala clubman.

“It’s really up to the leaders on the team now to really step up and drive the team on.

“We can go one of two ways: we can either pack it in and just cry about what happened there or we can go back and have a good fight at it.

“Plenty of teams have gone on and won All-Irelands through the back-door,

“That’s going to have to be our ambition. Go and target that match (against Cork) and really get a bit of redemption.”

FRIENDS OF DUBLIN HURLING: The Friends of Dublin Hurling bus for Saturday's game in Cork will now be departing earlier than originally indicated - leaving Connolly Station at 2pm and Rathcoole at 2.30pm. The bus is fully fully booked out.
