WATERFORD 2-21 DUBLIN 1-19

Dublin’s 2015 season has come to an end after a tough battle against Waterford in Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC quarter-final at Semple Stadium, Thurles.

The Déise came from one-point adrift at half-time (0-13 to 0-12) to restart the better and Shane Bennett’s 37th minute goal gave them the perfect early second half boost.

Austin Gleeson grew in influence in the game while Maurice Shanahan keep the scoreboard moving from deadballs primarily.

However, Dublin refused to buckle with Mark Schutte’s 55th minute goal have Dublin hope to reduce the arrears to 1-19 to 1-15.

Waterford played well on the counter-attack over the conclusion of the game with Maurice Shanahan’s 66th minute goal ending Dublin’s dreams.

Dublin finished with 14 men as Liam Rushe was red-carded in the dying moments.

Dublin led 0-13 to 0-12 at the break after a very encouraging opening half.

It could have been more as Waterford benefited from poor officiating to be awarded a ‘65’, which Shanahan converted in the 29th minute.

Ger Cunningham’s men had defended well, the work-rate and intensity was high while played a measured and precise game in attack.

Danny Sutcliffe, playing his best hurling of the year, finished out the half with two excellent points – the first after winning a Gary Maguire puckout and taking off for goal while the second highlighted Dublin’s growing confidence as they used possession wisely for Niall McMorrow to place Sutcliffe for a super point.
