Senior hurlers hoping to build on victory over Galway

Senior hurlers hoping to build on victory over Galway

Wed, 25th March 2015

The Divisional placings in the Allianz Hurling League are decided so the action moves on immediately to the knock-out and relegation issues.

Four quarter-finals are on the agenda for next weekend, as well as relegation play-offs in 1A and 1B.

The full list is as follows:

Saturday: Dublin v Limerick, Croke Park;

Sunday: Cork v Wexford, Pairc Ui Rinn; Waterford v Galway, Walsh Park; Offaly v Tipperary, O’Connor Park.

Relegation play-offs

Saturday: 1B: Laois v Antrim, O’Moore Park;

Sunday: 1A: Kilkenny v Clare, Nowlan Park.

DUBLIN v LIMERICK

For the second successive year, Limerick have narrowly missed out on promotion from 1B but now get a chance to test themselves against 1A opposition. Dublin, who didn’t reach the quarter-finals last year, finished third in 1A this year. The last Allianz Hurling League clash between the counties was in 2013 when Dublin beat Limerick (1-16 to 1-15) in the 1B final, having lost by 1-21 to 1-15 in the group encounter.

Having been relegated at the end of last season, they secured a quick return to 1A last Sunday when finishing top of 1B after a six-point win over Wexford.

Waterford beat Galway by 0-22 to 1-13 in last year’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1A campaign. Waterford did not qualify for last year’s quarter-finals; Galway beat Limerick before losing to Kilkenny in the semi-finals.

The All-Ireland champions of the past two years meet to decide which of them drops into 1B.
