Vincent’s hoping to make big-game experience count

Thu, 24th November 2016

St Vincent’s selector, Niall Curran, is hoping the Dublin champions can bring all their big-game experience to bear in Sunday’s Leinster Club SFC semi-final against Longford’s St Columba’s in Pearse Park, Longford (2.0).

The Mullinalaghta side won their first Longford SFC title in 66 years two months ago and followed that up with victory over Westmeath’s more fancied St Loman’s in their provincial quarter-final last time out.

“You would like to think that their experiences over the past few years will stand to them but you are never really sure,” says Niall.

“We have had a few additions to the panel in recent years but essentially, it is the same group that we have had and they are well used to playing away from home.

“I think it’s a positive for the lads to experience days like what we have to look forward to next Sunday and thankfully, we have had a number of them in the past few years.

“While it can be hostile enough during a match and you would expect that to a degree, the people of Carlow could not have been nicer to us in our dealings with them and were very welcoming when we played Palatine last Sunday week.

“We have quite a few lads now with lots of experience and having to play away from home is just something that would not intimidate them at all,” adds Niall
