Vincent’s knock Jude’s for four - SHC round-up (Thursday)

Fri, 28th April 2017

St Vincent's opened their Dublin SHC Group 3 account in very impressive fashion when defeating St Jude's 4-21 to 0-16 in Parnell Park on Thursday night.

Two sets of brothers were very much to the fore for the Marino side who have former Dublin footballer, manager and selector, Mickey Whelan, as part of their backroom staff this season.

The McBride brothers - Rian (1-3) and Cian (0-5) - as well as the three Connolly Keith (1-0), Tom (0-2) and Diarmuid (0-1) - tallied 2-11 between them as Vinnies outclassed a below par Jude's.

However, it was John Hetherton who top-scored on the night with 1-5 (0-4f) and it was his goal in the third minute that gave his side the ideal start.

By the interval Vincent's were 1-13 to 0-6 to the good with Alan Moore also enjoying a good evening in the Marino side's attack.

Within the first minute of the second half Keith Connolly fired to the net past St Jude's keeper Martin Hartnett with Rian McBride and Ronan Fallon adding the other goals.

Darren Whelan was the late, late hero for Crumlin as his injury-time goal saw his side edge out Faughs 1-18 to 2-14 at O'Toole Park in their Dublin SHC Group 1.

Faughs looked to be set for victory when points from Emmet McKenna and Fergal Heavey edged them in front but Whelan had the final winning word for Crumlin.

Lucan Sarsfields had it pretty much all their own way as the overcame St Brigid's 0-21 to 0-7 in Parnell Park on their Group 2 contest.

Kevin O'Reilly hit 0-12 for Lucan, including eight free, while Ciaran Dowling, a Dublin minor of 2015 and 2016, also impressed in the Sars forward unit while wing-back Seanie McClelland hit two fine scores from play.

Dowling hit three points in the opening half to help his side to a seven-point lead, 0-11 to 0-4, but they could have been further in front.
