We are striving for greater consistency: Chris Crummey

Thu, 19th January 2017

As the 2017 season begins to gather a bit of pace with the NHL appearing on the horizon Dublin hurler Chris Crummey says his side are looking for greater consistency this coming year.

“It is very important. In previous years, consistency probably has been a key downfall over the past few years.

“It’s something that we’re really striving to get this year, consistent performances.

"But we can only control our own performances and get the most out of ourselves," says Chris.

The Dubs face Wexford on Thursday night (Shelmaliers GAA, 7.30) in their concluding group game of the Bord na Móna Walsh Cup. A win would see them progress to the semi-finals as manager Ger Cunningham examines his options ahead of Dublin's NHL Division 1A opener against All-Ireland champions, Tipperary, in Croke Park on Saturday, February 11.

A lot of fresh new faces have appeared in the Dublin jersey already this year and Chris Crummey has been impressed with what he has witnessed.

“Inter-county panels change every year," says the Lucan Sarsfields clubman.

“That’s just something that happened to us this year. You’ve seen with the performances of the young lads…the freshness and the enthusiasm they’ve brought to it so far has been great.

“Hopefully they can keep those performances going for the remainder of the year.

“So far, all I can do is judge them on training and games and they have been performing really well.

“As long as they keep those performances up – they’re definitely able," adds Chris

“Lads like Donal Burke, Cian O’Sullivan, Paddy Smyth…these lads have come straight out of minor. They’re performing. They’ve done so well so far.

“They’re not short on confidence at all, which is great. Hopefully they can continue that now for the remaining games in the Walsh Cup and into the League.”
