Enrol for the St Brigid’s third annual 5k run

Wed, 14th August 2019

Excitement is building in Blanchardstown and Castleknock, as preparations are in full swing for the third annual St Brigid's 5k Run.

Community spirit and inclusion are the bedrock of our club so this is an opportunity for you to participate in your local community.

Date for your diary: this annual club fund-raiser will take place on Sunday September 15 starting and finishing in our club grounds of Russell Park, with a 10am start time. It is open to all.

The event is suitable for walkers/runners of all abilities and is open to children as well! This year, we have introduced a team race. To enter the team race, four participants per team are required, and all teams will compete in one of the four categories: male, female, or mixed, faster family. The official score for each team will be the combined race times of the team members. There are lots of great prizes on offer for the overall and section winners.

St Brigid’s GAA club are delighted to have Jones Engineering Group on board as Main Sponsor again this year, and we look forward to continuing our relationship. Jim Curley, Group Chief Executive of Jones Engineering is delighted to partner with St Brigid’s GAA club and highlighted how important it is to promote this type of event. “The impact of a community coming together to engage in physical activity of any kind, helps to increase positive mental health and the wellbeing of all ages”.

Walk, run, jog, or just dropdown and be part of your club. St Brigid’s GAA is organising this 5k run as part of our programme of providing opportunities for all to stay active & healthy. One of the key objectives of this event is to promote health and fitness for all our members and for the entire local community.

A number of Couch to 5k programmes will also be running across the club in the lead up to the event, to support anyone taking up jogging or running for the first time. These programmes will commence in late August and are three weeks in duration.

Full details are available on the St Brigid’s GAA club website.

After the summer holidays, it can be difficult gettingmotivated to do some activity, so with group support, rest assured you will not be on your own.

A St Brigid’s GAA kids Run Challenge will also be taking place for the first time this year. This promises to be a fantastic addition to last year’s event, whereby we welcome and encourage all family members to participate.

Many club players past and present including some of our Dublin Legends have already signed up and are looking forward to participating. This 5k run promises to be super special this year, with some extra events taking place on the morning. Refreshments for race participants will be available after the race, followed by the presentation of prizes. With music, goodie bags, t-shirts etc, the St Brigids 5K Race has something for everyone.
