Round Tower Clondalkin and Clontarf meet in IHC final

Round Tower, Clondalkin and Clontarf will battle it out tonight (Wednesday) in the Dublin IHC final at Parnell Park (7.30).

The Clondalkin men were in action last Friday night, also at the Donnycarney venue, when they defeated Erin's Isle in their semi-final replay (2-22 to 0-24) after the sides had drawn 1-23 each after extra-time the first time out in O'Toole Park.

Eric Finn got both goals for the Clondalkin side in their semi-final replay as his side came from 0-13 to 0-5 in arrears towards the close of the opening half to win.

Clontarf, who included Dublin senior Paddy Smyth in their ranks, defeated Kilmacud Crokes in their semi-final, 4-11 to 1-11, at O'Toole Park.

The sides met earlier in the competition in Group 1 when Round Tower, Clonakin prevailed 1-13 to 0-14 in the round-robin section back in July at Monastery Road.

They also clashed in AHL3 action when Clontarf came out on top, 3-16 to 1-16, in mid-June in St Anne's Park.

Reflecting on their semi-final replay victory Tower's manager, Feargal McDonagh, said: “The lads showed a huge amount of character and we’re just delighted with the win.

“To regain our Senior 'B' status after a disappointing year last year is great for everyone in the club and we’re just really looking forward to the final.

“We have played Clontarf twice already this year, winning one and losing one and they are certainly a fine side.
“It’s very much a 50-50 encounter as far as I’m concerned and it’s all about who plays well on the night,” added Feargal.

Tower's won seven and lost four of their 11 regulation games in AHL3 while Clontarf lost seven and won four.
