Wed, 2 July 2025

Cuala pulled away in the second-half on their way to a crucial 3-16 to 1-6 victory over St Patrick’s Palmerstown in their Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Football League Division 3 encounter at Glenauline Park on Tuesday night.

The win all but secured their safety for next year with a Colum Sheanon goal helping build a narrow 1-5 to 0-4 interval lead.

The hosts netted immediately upon the restart but the Dalkey outfit regained control through the influential performances of both Peter Jackson and Killian O’Shea.

Jackson and Cuán Nugent raised further green flags as Cuala finished on the front foot through insurance points from Evan Gleeson, Dan Keating and Paul James.

Clontarf are another team that are set to remain in AFL3 for 2026 with their ability to score goals proving pivotal as they enjoyed a 3-13 to 0-18 win away to St Margaret’s.

A Kevin Lillis goal and points by Senan McCann, Cillian Leyden, Brian Berney and Lillis saw the visitors eke out a 1-6 to 0-8 lead by half-time with only some superb last-ditch defending from Clontarf’s Ciaran Delargy and Fionn McNamee preserving that lead.

The hosts kept their scoreboard ticking over as they overtook their opponents in the second-half but a goal from McCann and a Paddy Mohan point put ‘Tarf back in the driving seat.

St Margaret’s regained the lead once again only for Lillis to plunder his second goal in the final quarter with points by Leyden and Lillis keeping their team in control by the final whistle.

At the opposite end of the table, St Maur’s clinched the title following their resounding 4-21 to 0-5 win against Trinity Gaels in Rush.

In Go-Ahead Irelands AFL4, Castleknock were crowned champions as they recovered from a thirteen-point interval deficit to draw with Man O’War on a scoreline of 3-20 to 1-26.

With O’Dwyer’s and St Peregrine’s also sharing the spoils, this allowed St Sylvester’s the chance to make ground on their promotion challengers and they duly delivered with a 3-13 to 2-9 victory over Kilmacud Crokes in Páirc de Búrca.

The visitors seized the initiative through strong individual performances from Mick Downey, Cathal Rainey and Padraic Bolger while Senan Hogan kicked four second-half points to ensure their win.

In Tymon Park, St Jude’s handed themselves a lifeline as they eased past St Vincent’s by 6-19 to 0-9, picking up their third win of the campaign in the process.

Current minor Hugh O’Neill set the tone with a hat-trick of goals and with John Toye adding 0-10, the hosts cruised to victory with three further points from Brendan McManamon and an excellent display at midfield from Tom Devlin.

St Finian’s Newcastle were not so fortunate however as their relegation to AFL5 was confirmed, despite impressing in their 0-17 to 0-10 home win against Geraldine P. Moran.

Jamie Flanagan caught the eye for the hosts when kicking 0-7 and with Ciaran Burke adding 0-2, they claimed a deserved victory through the efforts of Mark Molloy and Diarmuid Guthrie in defence.
