Ballyboden St Endas power past Templeogue Synge Street in PTSB Dublin SFC 1

Ballyboden St Enda’s proved far too strong for Templeogue Synge Street, recording a twenty-three point victory in their PTSB Dublin Senior 1 Football Championship Group 1 clash at a sun-kissed Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon.

St Enda’s enjoyed a 0-8 to 0-0 interval advantage with Colm Basquel leading the way with three points from play while his elder brother Ryan chipped in with a brace.

The second-half was equally forgettable with the exception of the performance of Colm Basquel, who netted in the 49th minute on his way to a personal tally of 1-6, all from open play.   

The holders enjoyed a monopoly on possession as expected and pushed two points clear by the 8th minute thanks to a brace of individual scores from Colm Basquel.

Ryan Basquel added to the St Enda’s lead in the 12th minute as his side enjoyed a dominance at midfield through the efforts of Aran Waters.

The procession towards the Synger goal continued as Colm Basquel clipped over his third point from play while further points from Daire Sweeney and Ryan Basquel (free) opened up a six-point lead by the end of the first quarter.

Ballyboden’s accuracy deserted them for a period but the chances continued to arrive, in marked contrast to a Templeogue side that struggled to threaten against the defensive aggression of Brian Bobbett and Cathal Flaherty.

Céin D’Arcy ended a twelve-minute scoreless period for Boden when pointing in the 27th minute while his centrefield partner Waters fisted over soon after to leave eight points separating the teams by half-time.    

Ross McGarry clipped over within three minutes of the restart and matters went from bad to worse for Synge Street as Sweeney fired over a two-pointed free in the 37th minute.

With James Holland effectively curbing the threat of Niall Scully, it was left to James McCormack to finally open their account in the 40th minute after a strong incision down the middle.

Points from Colm Basquel and Sweeney (free) left Ballyboden twelve points clear by the end of the third quarter and the former raised the first green flag of the afternoon when sidestepping Max Fitzgerald before firing into the empty net.

The contest petered put to its inevitable conclusion as Sweeney enhanced his own personal tally with a trio of frees with the gulf in class all too evident by the final whistle as Holland fisted home in added time.
