Ballymun Kickhams and Thomas Davis book SFC1 quarter-final spots

Sat, 9th October 2021

Holders Ballymun Kickhams and Thomas Davis booked their quarter-final berths following Friday night's Go-Ahead Dublin SFC1 Group 3 Round 3 games.

Kickhams' 0-14 to 1-9 victory over Clontarf at St Margaret's sees them conclude the round-robin group stage in first spot following their tight battles against Thomas Davis (1-12 to 1-10) and Skerries Harps (1-12 to 0-15) in the earlier rounds.

Thomas Davis impressed in their comprehensive 2-16 to 1-7 victory over Skerries Harps at Parnell Park to finish in the runners-up spot.

The Kiltipper Road men showed great work-rate throughout and began with intent when kicking the opening four scores without reply inside seven minutes.

Josh Lambert got them up and running with two early points, one off either foot, before Mark Nolan judged his mark from the right side to perfection.

The influential Davy Keogh made it 0-4 to 0-0 after the Dublin senior hurler combined with Fionn Murray to good effect.

However, Harps battled back with a Stephen Smith converted free from 30 metres before Harry Dawson fired home the first goal of the contest - a well worked score that concluded with Killian McGinnis offloading to his forward colleague.

Before the first water stoppage Fionn Murray, a good turn and shot off his left, and Eoin Kirby hit points for Davis either side of a Ciarán Murphy score for Harps to leave Thomas Davis in front 1-05 to 1-2.

The second quarter was to prove decisive with Ryan Deegan extending Thomas Davis' lead in the 20th minute.

Three minutes later a long delivery into the goalmouth by Deegan was expertly flicked overhead by Seán Reilly to the Skerries' net to make it 2-6 to 1-2.

In the 27th minute Skerries went close to hitting a second goal themselves but Killian McGinnis, who showed great footwork in his approach play, was denied by an excellent save by Robert Crilly.

By half-time Thomas Davis were 2-7 to 1-3 to the good after Stephen O'Beirne and Stephen Smith (free) had exchanged scores.

Two brilliantly struck deadballs from Fionn Murray - one a '45' the other a 47-metre free, was followed by a fine long-range effort from Ryan Deegan and when Eoin Kirby, who tallied 1-2 overall, was on target Thomas Davis were well clear, leading 2-11 to 1-3.

Before the second water break brothers Stephen and Jack Smith had added scores for Harps but they were 2-12 to 1-5 adrift with less than 15 minutes remaining.

On the restart Fionn Murray brought his tally to 0-4 (0-2f, 0-1 '45') when converting a free to extend Davis' lead.

There was no way back for Skerries Harps who finished the group in third place with Clontarf propping up the table.
