Boden progress to quarters in second spot (SHC ‘A’ Group 2)

Sat, 8th August 2020

Ballyboden St Enda's secured the second qualification spot from the Dublin SHC 'A' Group 2 courtesy of their 2-20 to 2-10 victory over Craobh Chiaráin in Páirc Uí Mhurchú on Saturday evening.

Boden will now join table-toppers Crokes, who defeated Scoil Uí Chonaill 3-23 to 1-8 in Silver Park, in the quarter-finals with Paul Ryan top-scoring for Joe Fortune's Firhouse Road outfit.

The southsiders began on the front foot with early points from Niall Ryan, Stephen O'Connor, Conal Keaney and Paul Doherty before Cian Derwin opened Craobh's account to make it 0-4 ro 0-1 by the sixth minute.

Derwin was Chiaráin's chief teller hitting 2-9 (0-6f, 0-1 '65'), his second goal coming in the final minutes of the game after a goalmouth scramble.

Points from Paul Ryan (one free, one '65') were followed by a Niall McMorrow score, following good work by Aidan Mellett to make it 0-7 to 0-1.

Craobh's first goal came just before the midpoint of the half but ten minutes later Boden had a goal of their own when Pearse Christie raised a green flag for his side to hold a 1-9 to 1-3 lead.

Derwin (three points including one free) and Paul Ryan (two frees) exchanged scores before the teams entered the break with Boden leading 1-11 to 1-6.

St Enda's hit the first six scores on the restart with Paul Ryan (four frees), Conal Keaney and Niall Ryan on target to push their lead out to ten points, 1-17 to 1-6 by the three-quarter mark.

Paul Ryan's goal entering the last ten minutes put the outcome well out of doubt with Cian Derwin capping a fine individual display with his second goal for Craobh late on.

Ryan finished with a tally of 1-11 (0-9f, 0-1 '65') for Boden with Cian Derwin hitting 2-9 (0-6f, 0-1 '65') for the Craobh.

In Group 2's other encounter Kilmacud Crokes recovered from the concession of an early goal to run out convincing 3-23 to 1-8 victors over Scoil Uí Chonaill in Silver Park.

Oisin O’Rorke, who missed out Crokes Round 2 victory over Craobh Chiaráin following his red-card dismissal against Boden first time out, scored Crokes first-half goal as they built a strong 1-12 to 1-3 half-time lead.

Second half goals from Fionn Ó Ceallaigh, who tallied 1-4 overall, and Shane Veale steer Crokes to their 21-point success.
