Castleknock rock Vins with two late goals in SFC1

CASTLEKNOCK 3-8 ST VINCENT'S 0-14

Castleknock performed a late 'smash and grab' to defeat St Vincent's in Wednesday night's Dublin SFC1 Group 4 clash at Broomfield.

Vins led by six points, 0-10 to 0-4, 11 minutes into the second half but the concession of three goals, two in the last few minutes, saw the Dublin 15 pull off something of a shock victory.

Shane Boland got the first of their goals following a powerful run from Darragh Warnock to close the gap to 0-10 to 1-4 with 17 minutes remaining.

Tomas Quinn, Tommy McDaniels, Ciaran Kilkenny and Diarmuid Connolly, off his left from 40 metres, exchanged scores and Vincent's were 0-12 to 1-6 to the good just inside the concluding ten minutes.

Castleknock's Kevin Kindlon, with a great strike, an Mick Concarr swapped points before Larry Norton's side rocked Vincent's with 2-1 inside four minutes.

Substitute Kevin Stephenson slotted a point before a high delivery was flicked to the net by Gerard McDermottroe in the 58th minute to edge Castleknock 2-8 to 0-13 in front.

Two minutes later the same tactic saw Stephenson fist the ball to the net after Mick Savage had fumbled the high delivery into the danger area.

The Dublin 15 side packed their defence over the six minutes of added time and Vincent's could not find a route to goal with James McCusker's 65th minute point the last of the night.

Vincent's led 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time. Both sides had been guilty of poor shooting in the early passage but Vins closed out the half with points from Lorcan Smyth, Cameron Diamond and a Tomas Quinn free to open up a three-point lead.
