Currie brothers fire Na Fianna to SHC ‘A’ Group 1 victory over Faughs

Wed, 17th April 2019

DUBLIN SHC 'A' GROUP 1

NA FIANNA 3-19 FAUGHS 2-7

The Currie brothers were the scoring heroes for Na Fianna as they cruised to a 15-point victory over Faughs in this Dublin SHC 'A' Group 1 meeting in Parnell Park on Wednesday night.

Seán scored 3-3 from play while older brother Colin amassed 0-9, including five frees and three successfully converted '65s'.

Na Fianna began well with points from Donal Burke and Colin Currie before Seán Currie finished off a Na Fianna move in emphatic style to open up a 1-2 to 0-0 lead inside five minutes.

While the St Mobhi Road men started with a clinical edge their radar was a little off at times as they shot nine first half wides but still lead 1-9 to 1-4 at half-time.

Faughs goal was their opening score in the 11th minute when wing-forward David Croke won a puckout before setting off for goal and made it all the way before firing past Jonathan Treacy.

Ten minutes into the second half Na Fianna looked sure to strike for their third goal but keeper Liam Gleeson did well to deny Seán Currie from close range after good interplay between the brothers.

The introduction of AJ Murphy added life to the Na Fianna forward unit and he was not long on before adding a score.

With 15 minutes remaining a purposeful run and finish for goal by Currie made it 2-15 to 1-5 and despite Chris Bennett's goal for Faughs it was the northsiders who finished on top with Currie completing his hat-trick of goals.
