Dublin LGFA Annual Convention 2025
The annual convention of Dublin LGFA will be held this coming Saturday, December 6th. It is a time for designated club delegates along with the County executive committee to review the year and to plan ahead for 2026.
Our overall membership figure has reached 31, 258 which is an remarkable increase of 19, 110 in just ten years. Our juvenile membership (U8 – U18) now makes up 69% of our membership, adults 12%, non-playing members 16% and others 5%.
When we analysis our membership figures, we are delighted to witness the growth in playing numbers in the teenage category (U13 to U18). This is an age group which in the past has experienced a drop off in numbers. Over membership in this age group was up by 578 on the figure for 2024. Tremendous credit goes to all our clubs and their mentors for encouraging young girls to remain active in sport.
Stephen Harbron our fixtures officer who is in charged of overseeing our comprehensive fixtures programme from U13 to adult organised in excess of 4800 fixtures in 2025.
Three new Go-ahead Ireland adult club championship competitions were introduced to cater for the increase of 400+ adult members. Several clubs added second or additional adult teams to their ranks while clubs such as St Patrick’s Palmerstown fielded at adult level for the first time in 2025.
On the intercounty scene 2025 was a good year for the Dubs in what was the associations 40th Anniversary having been founded back on the 6th of May 1985.
Our under 14 squad captured the All-Ireland and Leinster gold titles. The Dublin minor squad recaptured the Minor A Leinster title bridging a seven-year gap while also qualifying for the All-Ireland final for this first time since 2016. Both the under 16 and under 20 squads reached their respective Leinster finals. At senior level Dublin were crowed TG4 All Ireland champions for the seventh time in our history. Back in May Dublin retained their Leinster senior crown winning their 12th provincial title in a row.
Our senior players are amongst the top female sports people in Ireland. Carla Rowe, Hannah Tyrrell and Leah Caffrey to name just a few are household names in the sports world. All three won TG4 All Stars back in November along with fellow teammates Jess Tobin, Sinéad Goldrick, Éilish O’Dowd and Kate Sullivan.
Hannah Tyrrell was named as the TG4 Players Player of the year a fitting accolade to a wonderful player who retired from Inter County football after the All-Ireland final versus Meath.
