First Dublin GAA Training Session Held at Spawell

First Dublin GAA Training Session Held at Spawell
Tue, 26 May 2026

The Dublin U15s Football Development Squad trained on the site of the Dublin GAA Centre of Participation at Spawell this week, as the first of four pitches was made available for use.

They are the first team to use the pitch, which is one of four pitches that will be developed over the coming years as part of Dublin GAA’s Centre of Participation at Spawell.

The Centre will be developed on a phased basis and when complete, will have four pitches, one of which will be all-weather, as well as changing rooms and other ancillary facilities.

Dublin GAA Chair Ken O’Sullivan said, “The last few months have been hugely positive with the turning of a first sod out in Hollystown and now the first pitch open at Spawell.

“We all know and understand that there is plenty of work still ahead of us but every step is a step in the right direction and every step helps in some small way to alleviate the pressure on our pitches.”

Currently, the 88 clubs in Dublin use 412 pitches across the county, yet only 30% are under club control, with 53% owned by local authorities and the remaining pitches owned by colleges and schools.

“Over the coming years being able to provide eight new pitches in Hollystown and Spawell will make a very real difference to the local clubs, schools and their communities,” continued O’Sullivan.

“It is brilliant to see the plans come to life and to see players enjoying a pitch at Spawell for the very first time.”
