FLASHBACK: Dublin v Clare 2010

FLASHBACK: Dublin v Clare 2010
By Conor MartinThu, 18 June 2026

Dublin take on Clare in a huge All-Ireland quarter-final this weekend, as they look to keep their ambitions of lifting Liam MacCarthy alive.

Dublin's last Championship win over the Banner came in 2010. Conor Martin takes a look back at that game here.

Dublin claimed a superb 2-22 to 0-15 victory over Clare at a rain-soaked Croke Park to progress in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship qualifiers.

An outstanding display from All-Star midfielder Alan McCrabbe, who finished with eight points, inspired the Dubs to a memorable win.

McCrabbe's tally included two superb sideline cuts, while goals from Peter Kelly and substitute Simon Lambert ensured Dublin claimed their first-ever All-Ireland SHC qualifier victory.

Anthony Daly's side produced an excellent first-half performance to establish a commanding 0-14 to 0-07 lead by the interval. Dublin controlled possession throughout the opening period, with McCrabbe, David 'Dotsy' O'Callaghan, Stephen Hiney and Declan O'Dwyer all contributing scores as Dublin dominated around the middle third.

Clare responded strongly after the restart, reducing the deficit to a single point as Colin Ryan, Nicky O'Connell, Darach Honan and Fergal Lynch led the Banner's fightback. However, Dublin responded in decisive fashion.

The turning point arrived in the 45th minute when Peter Kelly's long delivery into the square evaded everyone, including Clare goalkeeper Donal Tuohy, and found the back of the net to restore Dublin's four-point advantage.

From there, Daly's men regained control.

McCrabbe continued to dictate proceedings with further scores, while Maurice O'Brien added another point before Simon Lambert put the result beyond doubt in the 66th minute. After an excellent run from O'Callaghan, the forward slipped the ball to Lambert, who fired powerfully to the net for Dublin's second goal.

Gary Maguire also played his part with a number of important saves, including an outstanding stop to deny Jonathan Clancy late on, ensuring Dublin comfortably saw out the closing stages.

Joey Boland, Liam Rushe and Peter Kelly were immense throughout, while captain Stephen Hiney led by example as Dublin's work rate and physicality proved too much for Clare over the 70 minutes.

The victory was particularly significant for manager Anthony Daly, who enjoyed a memorable success against his native county in only his second season at the helm. It also reflected the progress made by the squad under Daly's guidance, with Dublin showing composure after Clare's second-half resurgence before finishing as the stronger side.

Dublin's reward was a place in the next phase of the All-Ireland qualifiers, where they would face Antrim and have their summer curtailed at the hands of the men in Saffron.
