FLASHBACK: Dublin v Clare- 2014 NHL
By Conor MartinThu, 2 April 2026

Dublin can cap off a solid league campaign which has seen them promoted to Division 1A for 2027 by beating Clare in this weekend’s Division 1B final in Limerick.

Niall Ó Ceallacháin’s side can look to the past for inspiration- such as Dublin’s 2014 league win over the Banner.

Conal Keaney starred as Dublin bounced back in Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League, easing past All-Ireland champions Clare 2-17 to 0-17 at Parnell Park.

Keaney was a constant threat, hitting 1-3 from play. Alan McCrabbe also impressed, racking up 0-09 from frees.

After a heavy loss to Galway, Anthony Daly’s side came out firing. McCrabbe opened the scoring inside a minute and Dublin never relinquished control, staying ahead throughout.

Clare, managed by Davy Fitzgerald, couldn’t match the intensity they showed the previous week. Though they stayed within reach, they were always chasing a sharper, more driven Dublin outfit.

Keaney caused major problems inside, linking well with David O’Callaghan and notching 1-2 before the break, while Clare’s defence struggled to contain him.

With the aid of a breeze, Dublin dominated midfield exchanges. McCrabbe slotted eight first-half frees and even clipped over an excellent sideline cut.

Clare found scores harder to come by, relying heavily on Colin Ryan frees, and trailed 1-12 to 0-10 at half-time.

After the break, despite having the advantage of the breeze, the Munster side failed to make it count. Shane O’Donnell, the All-Ireland final hero, was kept quiet at full-forward by Peter Kelly, and Clare struggled to build any real momentum.

Dublin, on the other hand, took full control in the second half. Colm Cronin’s goal on 45 minutes — following earlier attacking play involving Keaney — pushed them into a commanding 2-14 to 0-12 lead and effectively ended the contest.

Keaney was again central to the move, winning a high ball before McCrabbe’s delivery broke for Cronin to finish to the net.

From there, the Dubs cruised home, with Shane Durkin adding two excellent points from distance and a superb catch to underline their dominance in a one-sided finish.

The Dubs would save their Division 1A status by winning the relegation play-off that year against Waterford.
