Footballers falter in Tralee

Footballers falter in Tralee

Mon, 7th February 2022

Dublin 0-11

Kerry 1-15

A wet and windy Austin Stack Park in Tralee played host to our Senior Footballers visit to Kerry for the second Allianz League game of the campaign.

While conditions made things extremely difficult for both sets of players, there was some good passages of play from both sides in the opening quarter.

Kerry played with the aid of the gale force wind in the first half and were clearly looking to get the ball into their full forward line. They had early scores from Paul Geaney and David Clifford with Dean Rock and an excellently struck long range free from Evan Comerford kept Dublin in touch.

Sean Bugler added a nice score from play to reduce the score to the minimum of 0-5 to 0-4 when Kerry were awarded a penalty. Clifford flashed his shot outside of the post but did respond with a well taken point from play in the moments after.

A key moment of the game then arrived when Dublin scored a goal after Dean Rock's point effort ended up in the net after a deflection off Kerry goalkeeper Shane Murphy, however referee Conor Lane ruled it out for a perceived foul in the build up and then black carded Niall Scully in a case of mistaken identity. Kerry utilised the extra man and the conditions to finish the half with a batch of scores including a Dara Moynihan goal.

Dublin controlled long periods of the second half but the run of scores required to close the gap did not come at the pace required. Kerry were held to just one point in the second half and some fine long range points from Brian Howard, Brian Fenton off his left and substitute Ryan Basquel showed moments of quality.
