Parnell Park played host to a special event last night to mark the occasion of the inaugural meeting of the Dublin Ladies County Board which took place some forty years ago, on the 6th of May 1985.

Dublin LGFA were honoured to have Trina Murray (LGFA President), Helen O’Rourke (LGFA CEO) and former LGFA Presidents Pat Quill and Walter Thompson in attendance along with many individuals who have served Dublin LGFA over the last forty years in various roles at county, provincial and national levels including former players and officials.

Niall Scully who recently won a national LGFA award for journalism was also present. Several articles written by Niall from 1985 onwards were on display in the room, a testament to his long career and dedication to the promotion of women in sport.

Joanne Cantwell, former Dublin footballer and PRO, was our MC for this special evening.

Presentations were made to Áine Keogh and Patricia Hickey, the first Chairperson and Secretary of Dublin LGFA. A presentation was also made to Patricia Monahan for her service to Dublin having first acted as County Assistant Secretary back in 1989.

A brilliant panel discussion took place facilitated by Joanne with Rhoda Kerins, 1988 Leinster winning captain, Christina McGinty 1989 Junior All Ireland winner, Denise Masterson 2010 Senior All Ireland winning captain and Michelle Davoren three time Dublin and Leinster Championship winner with Kilmacud Crokes.

While the event was organised to mark a significant milestone and to honour those who attended the first meeting of Dublin LGFA back in 1985 the occasion provided people with an opportunity to catch up with old friends and colleagues, to chat and retell stories and tales of their time with county and club . It was a memorable night.

Before the evening began, Joe Keane, Chairperson of Dublin LGFA, laid a floral wreath at the memorial fountain in Parnell Park in memory of our deceased members. Special people who are always in our thoughts. We will be forever grateful to them for their dedication and service to Dublin LGFA. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.
