GAA Rounders In Dublin

GAA Rounders In Dublin

Fri, 23rd February 2024

Most people associate Rounders with Community Games but are not as familiar with the GAA Rounders association which forms part of the GAA and organises both adult and underage championships and tournaments.

The popularity of Rounders has experienced peaks and throughs in Dublin over the years but is currently experiencing a resurgence with over 10 clubs registering in recent years.

We have a mix of clubs, some of whom form part of mainstream GAA clubs and others are standalone Rounders only.

As clubs are growing, there is also a notable increase in games and events taking place across the county.

A number of Dublin clubs will be taking part in the 2024 All-Ireland Championships commencing in April, but there are lots of games and events in Dublin over the coming weeks and months and the best way to set up a new club is to pop out and watch a game and speak to one of the existing teams.

The 2023/24 Dublin Winter League is currently ongoing which is a Mixed competition (ie. combined teams made up of men and women).

We will be running the finals day blitz on Saturday the 23rd March in Tymon Park on the Limekiln Road side. You can check out the league tables and remaining fixtures on our website by clicking here.

GAA Rounders are currently running a project to increase female participation in sport in conjunction with the GAA and Sport Ireland.

On Saturday 24th February will be welcoming a number of new clubs to the GAA Centre of Excellence in Abbottstown to introduce them to the sport through an action-packed skills day.

The 2024 championship season will commence in April, and we will have competitions at senior, intermediate and junior level.

The Dublin clubs will hope to build on last year's success with Limekiln reaching the Senior Mixed Championship Final and Kevins winning the Intermediate Ladies championship.

Na Fianna have some very experienced players and new club Dublin Metropolitans proved to be very competitive in last year's Junior championships.

But before you consider jumping into championship action, you should consider entering our Junior / Novice Blitz in Tymon Park on Sunday 12th May.

This is an All-Ireland event, and we will have competitions for Men, Women and Mixed teams and is aimed at new entrants.

It’s not too late to register and try your hand a new sport, or perhaps return to the sport after a few years.

To register, email secretary.rounders@gaa.ie to affiliate and then fill out this form.

There will also be several underage events in Dublin this year.

Our Under 12 blitz will follow a Go Games format which is scheduled for Saturday the 25th May.

Our Under 14 blitz is schedule for 18th May and our Under 13 National Feile will be held in Abbotstown on Sunday the 9th of June.

For further information on Rounders, check out their website- www.gaarounders.ie - or follow GAA Rounders on X (Twitter).
