Global Reach of Handball: TG4’s 2024 World 4-Wall Championships Coverage Draws 320,000 Viewers

Over seven days of exhilarating handball action, TG4’s coverage of the 2024 World 4-Wall Handball Championships captivated audiences globally, drawing in an impressive total of 320,000 viewers. Across live broadcasts and replays, fans tuned in 208,000 times, with 176,000 live views and an additional 32,000 playbacks.

In a clear indication of the sport's international appeal, over 80,000 viewers from outside Ireland joined the live broadcasts, including 27,000 from the UK and 20,000 from the US. Viewers from 55 countries across the globe, including Japan, Argentina, and Australia, engaged with the action, sharing heartfelt comments such as, "Enjoying this sitting in the sun in Cyprus and remembering handball," and "Watching from NYC on the train."

The thrilling Open Finals on Sunday drew a peak of 16,000 viewers, as Ciana Ní Churraoin triumphed over Limerick’s Martina MacMahon in the Ladies Final, while Cavan’s Paul Brady defeated Clare’s Diarmuid Nash in a gripping tiebreaker to win the Men’s title for the sixth time at the age of 45. Fans can relive the excitement from these singles finals and the doubles finals on Spórt TG4’s YouTube channel.

TG4’s week-long handball programming began and concluded with the premiere of Liathróid Láimhe, a handball documentary commissioned for the GAA Handball centenary year, which reached 105,000 viewers. The documentary is now available on-demand on the TG4 Player for those who missed it. In addition, 15,000 tuned in to catch highlights of the finals on TG4’s GAA 2024 on Monday night.

TG4 will conclude its comprehensive handball coverage with a one-hour highlights program this Sunday at 5:40 p.m., featuring match highlights and exclusive interviews with the sport’s top players.
