Go-Ahead Ireland AFL 1 & AFL 2 Roundup- May 6th 2025

Wed, 7 May 2025

St Patrick’s Donabate bounced back from their Round 5 defeat to Kilmacud Crokes as they edged Cuala by 1-14 to 1-12 in Division 1 of the Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Football League on Tuesday night.

The visitors raced out of the blocks to move four points clear but some errant shooting allowed Cuala to restore parity at 0-7 apiece by half-time.

Despite being reduced to fourteen on the cusp of the break, Cuala resumed in a dominant manner as they struck 1-2 without reply but a goal from Stephen Dempsey helped turn the tide back in the favour of St Pat’s.

With Clyde Burke, Timmy Govorov, Adam Conroy, Evan Brooks and Kieran Conroy all making positive impacts from the bench, the visitors dominated the closing stages with Dempsey’s 1-3 and three points by Ollie Brooks proving crucial by the final whistle.

The win moves St Pat’s back into top spot alongside a Na Fianna team that edged Kilmacud Crokes by 0-15 to 0-13 in Páirc de Búrca and a Clontarf side that pipped Ballymun Kickhams by 2-18 to 1-18 at St Anne’s Park.

Elsewhere, Thomas Davis eased their relegation concerns as they overcame Ballinteer St John’s by 3-15 to 1-14 at Kiltipper Road.

The hosts led by 0-8 to 0-7 at the break but an own goal and a Chris Sallier goal pushed them clear and while Liam Fenton raised a green flag for Ballinteer, Thomas Davis made sure of the points through a late Ross Mullarkey goal.

Another team to move up the table were Lucan Sarsfields, as Mark Lavin’s dramatic late goal saw them edge Fingal Ravens by 2-12 to 0-17 in Rolestown.

Lavin (1-6), Daire Newcombe (0-3) and Finn Bruton were the pick of a Lucan side that trailed for the large part as Dylan Kettle kept the home scoreboard ticking over while goalkeeper Aaron Lee made a couple of superb saves to preserve the Ravens lead.

However, the visitors finished strongly with substitute Rian Doherty netting and in injury time, Derek Cahill and Darren Gavin combined well in setting up Lavin for the game-winning score.

AFL1: Cuala 1-12 St Patrick’s Donabate 1-14; Thomas Davis 3-15 Ballinteer St John’s 1-14; Fingal Ravens 0-17 Lucan Sarsfields 2-12; Kilmacud Crokes 0-13 Na Fianna 0-15; Castleknock 3-14 St Mary’s Saggart 0-9; Clontarf 2-18 Ballymun Kickhams 1-18.

In AFL2, there was a thrilling conclusion at Collins Avenue as Naomh Barróg pipped Whitehall Colmcille by 3-15 to 2-17.

The visitors impressed from the outset as 1-1 from Matthew Nolan and two Paul Tolan frees saw Barróg move six points clear by the end of the first quarter.

Whitehall dominated the second quarter with only a Harry Nolan point ensuring that Barróg remained on parity at 1-7 apiece by the interval.

The away side seized the initiative once again upon the restart as Nolan added his second goal and the contest ebbed and flowed from that point with the lead exchanged on numerous occasions.

The hosts edged two points clear in the closing stages but points by Ryan Alexander and Paul Tolan levelled matters before some excellent defensive play from Bradley Lyne allowed Mick Tolan to kick the winning score.

There was another one-point away success at Lawless Park as Raheny just got the better of Fingallians by 0-20 to 3-10.

Sean Grenham (0-5) kicked the winning score for the visitors while Brian Fenton kicked four points as Raheny withstood some late pressure with Paddy Reid (0-2) and corner-back Jamie Kearns impressing.
