Go-Ahead Ireland AHL 2 Round-Up

Go-Ahead Ireland AHL 2 Round-Up
Mon, 16 June 2025

Castleknock secured another precious victory in their quest for top-flight hurling as they defeated Fingallians by 1-17 to 0-9 in their Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 2 encounter at a rainy Somerton Park on Saturday afternoon.

The victory all but secured their place in AHL1 for 2026 as they are four points clear at the top of the table alongside Craobh Chiaráin, with both teams having two games to play and positive records against their nearest challengers.

The sides were level at 0-8 apiece at half-time but the hosts took control of matters after the break with a goal from Matthew Lynam setting them on the road to victory.

Goalkeeper Ronan McCann, corner-back Max Byrne and David Bohan at wing-back kept their team on the front foot and with Neil Hogan keeping their scoreboard ticking over from placed balls, they eased home with Niall O’Callaghan adding two points from play.

On Sunday morning, Craobh Chiaráin were pushed all the way before recording the point that they required as they drew with Erin’s Isle in Farnham Drive by 0-18 to 1-15.

Cian Derwin and Billy Ryan accounted for the bulk of the Craobh scores as they struck six points apiece while Darren Kelly highlighted his threat from full-forward as he plundered the only goal of the game.

The likes of goalkeeper Lee Allen, full-back Eoin Forbes, Mark Hayes and Jack Murray all impressed for the visitors while wing-back Aidan Doherty caught the eye with a superb score from deep in his own half.

Elsewhere, St Sylvester’s picked up their fifth league win of the season as they comfortably overcame Raheny by 2-15 to 0-11 in Broomfield on Friday night.

The home goals arrived through Tommy Costello and PJ O’Toole and with Ciaran McLoughney chipping in with five points from play, the Malahide outfit pulled away through further scoring contributions from Dan Murphy, Costello, Eamonn McLoughney, Donnacha Canavan, Daragh McLoughney and Killian O’Flynn.

On Thursday night, Clontarf joined Syls on eleven points in the division as they accounted for Naomh Mearnóg by 2-17 to 2-13 in Portmarnock.

The visitors looked in trouble as they trailed by seven points after twenty minutes but a goal from Sean Byrne helped turn the tide in their favour as they entered the break with a marginal 1-8 to 1-7 lead.

Byrne provided the assist for the influential Mikey Devine to score Clontarf’s second goal while the tireless efforts of both Donagh Murphy and Ben Sullivan allowed the away side to seal their win.

At the opposite end of the table, Ballinteer St John’s pushed themselves away from the relegation zone with an impressive 2-22 to 1-15 away win at Thomas Davis.
