Go-Ahead Ireland team up with Irish Blood Transfusion Service & Dublin GAA to encourage bus passengers to become blood donors

Tue, 6 May 2025

Dublin GAA are delighted to support Go-Ahead Ireland’s collaboration with Giveblood.ie and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS), Ireland’s national organisation responsible for collecting, processing, and distributing blood and blood products, to launch the ‘Kill Time’ campaign.

This initiative invites passengers on Go-Ahead Ireland (GAI) services to take a quick three-minute online questionnaire to check their eligibility to donate blood and potentially save lives.

Why It Matters:

  • 1 in 4 people in Ireland will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime.

  • A single donation can save up to three lives.

  • The IBTS needs over 3,000 donations every week to maintain a healthy supply.

  • As a leading transport operator, Go-Ahead Ireland has the responsibility of doing our part in

How It Works:

Passengers can use their smartphones to scan QR codes on board GAI buses, complete the eligibility quiz, and learn how they can become part of Ireland’s life-saving blood donation community.

With 35 routes across the Greater Dublin Area and over a million passengers each month, Go-Ahead Ireland is well positioned to make a significant impact. By integrating this campaign throughout our fleet, we aim to reach a broad audience and encourage our passengers to support this vital cause.

Dervla McKay, Managing Director at Go-Ahead Ireland says: “Every month, millions of passengers use our services, so we are well positioned to not only communicate the need for blood donations but also encourage the communities we serve to support the vital work undertaken by the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.”

Dublin Senior Footballer Tom Lahiff & Dublin Camogie’s Claire Gannon joined Go-Ahead Ireland at the campaign launch, along with the ever-enthusiastic 'Buddy the Blood Drop'!
