It’s going to be a huge challenge against Limerick: Mattie Kenny

Thu, 21st March 2019

Dublin hurling manager Mattie Kenny is looking forward to his side testing themselves against the best this weekend.

The Dubs face reigning All-Ireland champions, Limerick, in this Sunday's HL Division 1 semi-final in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny (1.30) buoyed by their victory over Tipp in Semple Stadium last weekend.

“They’re the reigning All-Ireland champions and they showed in the League so far that they’ve carried last year’s form into this year’s League,” said Mattie.

“That’s going to be a huge challenge again.

“We’re not worried about the result as such, just about getting that quality game again.

“Those quality games can only be good for our group and our squad,” he added.

Dublin are also hoping to be boosted by the return of some injured players from their encounter with the Shannonsiders.

Liam Rushe missed last weekend's game, Oisín O'Rourke had to be replaced near the finish while Shane Barrett suffered a head injury against Laois and has not featured since.

Mattie Kenny explained that the St Patrick’s, Palmerstown man suffered a hand injury against Laois two weeks earlier in Parnell Park and was not considered for selection.

Rushed picked up a hand injury against the O'Moore County but the Dubs manager said: “Hopefully he’ll get a quick recovery and we’ll have him for the next day.”
