Kerin kicks injury-time winner for Boden

Kerin kicks injury-time winner for Boden

Sat, 17th October 2015

BALLYBODEN ST ENDA'S 1-12 ST OLIVER PLUNKETT'S/EOGHAN RUADH 1-11

A Andrew Kerin point in injury-time saw Ballyboden St Enda's end Plunkett's dreams in this well-contested Dublin SFC quarter-final at Parnell Park on Saturday evening.

In the first minute of added time Kerin fired over off his left foot to see Boden add the scalp of Plunkett's to that of Kilmacud Crokes that the claimed in the last round.

While it could have gone either way or more likely to extra-time Boden got more impact from the subs especially David 'Dotsy' O'Callaghan and Sam Molony.

O'Callaghan kicked one very crafty point as well as being fouled for two frees that Ryan Basquel following his introduction with just less than 20 minutes remaining.

Plunkett's made the dream start when Bernard Brogan fired to the net in the seventh minute to see his side lead 1-1 to 0-1.

But points from Colm Basquel, Kerin and Darren O'Reilly brought the sides level by the 15th minute.

Plunkett's responded impressively with scores from Bernard Brogan (two, one free) and an excellent Ross McConnell point off his left foot.

However, three minutes before the break Colm Basquel fielded a long delivery over the top from Michael Darragh Macauley before finishing past Alan O'Mara to edge his side 1-5 to 1-4 in front.

Back came Plunkett's to close out the half with points from Bernard Brogan and Gareth 'Nesty' Smith following hard graft by Bernard to lead 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.

Points on the restart from Niall Walsh and Bernard Brogan (free) pushed Plunkett's three clear before corner-back Bob Dwan curled over a fine score for Boden.

Entering the final 15 minutes Plunkett's were 1-9 to 1-7 in front. Boden then began to secure more possession but their shooting was letting them down but importantly they did not panic and scores from Molony and the hard-working Conal Keaney had the sides level, 1-9 each, with eight minutes to play.

Plunkett's went one up with a excellent Niall Walsh score but a Ryan Basquel free, following a foul on O'Callaghan, and point from play from O'Callaghan, showing all his experience, had Boden ahead by the minimum, 1-11 to 1-10.

Padráic Lee's point on 60 minutes for Plunkett's looked like it could send the game into extra-time before Kerin showed great mettle to slot the winner.
