Clann Mhuire B 3-19 St Marks A 4-9

Clann Mhuire B produced an impressive second-half display to deliver the PTSB Dublin LGFA Junior K Championship title at St. Margarets GAA Club on Sunday last.
Level at half-time, Trevor Byrne’s charges were on fire after the restart as the Naul outfit fired 1-8 unanswered in a 16- minute spell after the break, including a 39th minute Ruth Morgan goal.
Rain cleared to sunshine just before throw-in, and little separated the teams during an entertaining opening half. Elaine McGarvey and ‘Player of the Match’ Caoimhe Nearing gave Clann Mhuire the perfect start with the early points, but St Marks responded through Zara Quirke and Nicola Sherwood.
Margaret McGirl twice found the target as St Marks settled into the contest, while McGarvey remained a constant threat at the opposite end. Abbie Byrne also got on the scoresheet for Clann Mhuire.
The first breakthrough arrived after 15 minutes when Quirke struck the opening goal for St Marks. Clann Mhuire responded well, with McGarvey converting two frees before Nearing and McGarvey added further points.
St Marks remained firmly in contention through scores from Ava Sherwood and Nicola Sherwood, leaving the teams deadlocked at half-time, Clann Mhuire 0-9 to St Marks 1-6.
The game changed dramatically after the restart. Clann Mhuire came flying out of the blocks, with Nearing scoring twice from play either side of a Carly Reilly Flynn point.
McGarvey converted another two frees before Ruth Morgan struck Clann Mhuire's first goal in the ninth minute. Nearing and McGarvey continued to add to the scoreboard, while Róisín Macken also found the target.
St Marks needed a response, and substitute Anne Meegan provided it, scoring a goal shortly after her introduction. Quirke followed with a point, but Clann Mhuire quickly regained control. Reilly Flynn landed another score before Nearing capped a superb individual performance with a goal to put further daylight between the sides.
Meegan struck her second goal in the 58th minute to keep St Marks' hopes alive, but Clann Mhuire held firm. Reilly Flynn added her third point before Trisha Farrell struck Clann Mhuire's third goal deep into added time.
Quirke replied with her second goal, but it was too late to prevent Clann Mhuire claiming a deserved victory.
After the game Clann Mhuire captain Niamh Rooney received the Cup from Dublin LGFA Vice Chairperson Declan Patton.
