Leinster U16 B Championship Semi Final

Saturday April 18th, TU Blanchardstown Campus.

Dublin 4-15 (27) Offaly 1-13 (16)

Dublin overcame a well drilled Offaly side on Saturday afternoon to set up a provincial final meeting with Laois on May 2nd next. The O’Moore County had a convincing win over Carlow in their semi-final.

The mixed weather conditions on Saturday afternoon proved difficult for both teams at times with players having to contend with heavy rain showers alongside a driving wind which was usually followed up with periods of glorious sunshine!

Dublin had a slender two-point advantage at the break leading by 2-05 (11) to Offaly’s 0-09 having played against the wind for the opening period of the game.

Eva Healy Dillon got the opening goal of the game in the 11th minute following a superb run by the St Sylvesters midfielder. Dublin’s second goal arrived in the 27th minute when Sarah McGill found the back of the Offaly net to register what would be a key score for her side. McGill’s goal crucially gave Dublin a two-point advantage at the interval.

Early into the second period Offaly had reduced the deficit to a single score when Eva Healy Dillon struck for her second goal of the game. Darcy Hall added on a point from a free to give the young Dubs some breathing space. From there on in Dublin took control of the game tagging on a series of points before substitute Ella Murphy (51st min) slotted home her sides fourth goal of the game to put any chance of a late Offaly comeback to bed.
