LGFA – PTSB Senior club championship preview RD 5

There is a lot at stake for several teams as we come into the final series of SFC round robin games this evening (Sept 16th) with just two semi-final places left up for grabs in the PTSB Senior club championship.

PTSB SFC Group A:

Na Fianna v Kilmacud Crokes, Ref: Ian Howley, Venue: St Mobhi Road, 18:30pm.

A huge game coming up for both teams. Kilmacud Crokes travel to Glasnevin knowing a draw or a win will secure their place in the semi-final. However a Na Fianna victory will see the home side advance to the semi-finals and in doing so knock out the reigning champions, Crokes.

If Na Fianna win, they and Kilmacud Crokes will both be level on nine points each. The outcome of the head-to-head game between the two teams will then determine which team advances. A win or draw for Crokes will see them move on into the semi-finals however a Na Fianna victory will see them through to the knockout stages on the head-to-head rule.

Kilmacud Crokes have the players and indeed experience to get over the line this evening however Na Fianna manager Dave Ryan knows this Crokes side inside out having faced them over the last number of years when in charge of St Sylvesters. Can he orchestrate a shock victory over his old foes!

PTSB SFC Group A:

Clontarf v O Dwyer’s, Ref: Jason Buckley, Venue: St Annes No 34, 20:00pm.

Clontarf have confirmed their place in the semi-final with a round in hand. Their opponents O’Dwyers will travel to St Annes Park aiming for a good team performance over a Clontarf side who have been in devastating form to date in the championship. Another win is on the cards for Clontarf as they continue their preparations for next weeks semi-final.

PTSB SFC Group A:

Cuala v Fingallians, Ref: Sinead McHugh, Venue: Bray Emmets, 20:30pm.

Cuala returned to winning ways last week with a fine performance and indeed victory over O’Dwyers out in Balbriggan. Their opponents Fingallians also reignited their season with a fourth-round victory over Na Fianna. We therefore have the meeting of two teams who are now finding their form and who may yet make waves in the senior B championship.

PTSB SFC Group B:

Castleknock v Thomas Davis, Ref: Ronald Malone, Venue: Somerton, 19:00pm.

Depending on results elsewhere in the group Castleknock still have an outside chance of making the semi-finals. They drew with Ballyboden St Endas, narrowly lost to St Sylvesters before chalking up a win over Pobal Parnell last week. Thomas Davis will travel to Somerton aiming to return to winning ways ahead of their senior B championship campaign.

PTSB SFC Group B:

St Sylvesters v Pobal Parnell A, Ref: Greg O'Donnell, Venue: Broomfield, 19:30.

St Sylvesters shock defeat to Ballyboden St Endas last week leaves the 2025 runners up in the perilous position of requiring a win over Pobal Parnell to advance to the semi-finals. The Coolock based club are in last place on the group table however they have the players, the physicality and indeed experience to cause an upset in Malahide. Sylvesters current boss, Peter Clarke ironically a former star forward for Parnells back in the day, will require his experienced players such as Sinéad Aherne, Nicole Owens and Kate Sullivan to lead from the start to secure the win.

PTSB Senior club championship semi-finals will see the top team in Group A (Clontarf) play the second team in Group B. Likewise the top team in Group B (Ballyboden St Endas) will play the second team from Group A. The highest placed team in each group will have home advantage for their semi-final.

PTSB Senior B Championship.

The seven senior teams who do not qualify for the senior A championship semi-finals will move on into the PTSB Senior B Championship. To avoid quarter finals between teams from the same round-robin group, the third placed team in group A (six team group) will have a bye into the Senior B championship semi-final. The pairings for the PTSB senior championship quarter finals will then be as follows.

QF1: fourth team in group A vs third team in group B

QF2: fifth team in group A vs fourth team in group B

QF3: sixth team in group A vs fifth team in group B

While the PTSB senior B championship semi-final pairings will be as follows.

SF1: third team from group A (bye) vs winner QF2

SF2: Winner of QF1 vs winner of QF3

Elsewhere the PTSB Intermediate and Junior A championship continue tonight with key games down for decision in all groups.

PTSB IFC Group A:

St Maurs v Raheny, Ref: Gavin Donegan, Venue: Rush, 18:30; Scoil Ui Chonaill v Foxrock Cabinteely, Ref: Mark O Shea, Venue: Clontarf Road, 18:30.

PTSB IFC Group B:

Templeogue Synge Street v Ballinteer St Johns, Ref: Paul Flanagan, Venue: Dolphin Park, 18:30; Lucan Sarsfields v St Brigids, Ref: Ray McBride, Venue: 12th Lock, 19:30.

PTSB JFC Group A:

Skerries Harps v St Vincents A, Ref: Finbarr Shanahan, Venue: Skerries, 18:30; Clontarf B v Kilmacud Crokes B, Ref: Kevin O Donnell, Venue: St Annes No 34, 20:00.

PTSB JFC Group B:

St Peregrines v Clanna Gael Fontenoy, Ref: Diarmuid O Loing, Venue: Blakestown, 18:30; Ballyboden St Endas B v Naomh Olaf, Ref: John Doherty, Venue: Pairc Ui Mhurchu, 18:30.

PTSB Championship semi-finals in both the Intermediate and Junior A competitions will see the top team in Group A play the second team in Group B. Likewise the top team in Group B will play the second team from Group A. The highest placed team in each group will have home advantage for their semi-final.

Meanwhile the shield semi-final pairing will see the third placed team in Group A play the fourth placed team in group B, and the third placed team in Group B to play the fourth placed team in Group A, with highest placed team in each group having home advantage. There will be a draw for home venue for shield final. Fifth placed teams after the conclusion of the round robin series do not participate further. There will be no relegation playoff in 2026.
