Templeogue Synge Street C 2-11 Erin’s Isle C 3-01

Templeogue Synge Street produced a remarkable second-half comeback to overturn a four-point interval deficit and defeat Erin’s Isle by seven points.
Erin’s Isle made a blistering start, with Amy Fagan finding the net twice inside the opening three minutes. Fagan’s clinical finishing gave her side an immediate six-point advantage and left Templeogue Synge Street facing an uphill battle.
The early stages were littered with frees conceded by both teams, but Erin’s Isle struck for their third goal after 16 minutes. Katie Murphy drove forward and finished to the net from the edge of the arc, putting her side firmly in control 3-0 to 0-0 in front.
Templeogue Synge Street gradually settled into the contest. Melissa Clarke opened their account from play before Laura Kelly and Rachel Sheehan added further points. Murphy responded with Erin’s Isle’s only point of the game, leaving them 3-1 to 0-3 ahead.
Templeogue were handed a major boost shortly before the interval when Niamh Goodman scored their opening goal. That reduced the deficit to four points, with Erin’s Isle leading by 3-1 to 1-3 at half-time.
The complexion of the game changed completely after the restart. Templeogue introduced Neisha Fairbrother, Darcy Folan and Eleanor Galvin during the opening nine minutes, and Fairbrother quickly made an impact by kicking a point from play.
Clarke then took control from placed balls. She converted three frees in the space of five minutes, bringing Templeogue level at 1-7 to 3-1. Erin’s Isle struggled to recreate their early attacking threat and failed to register a score during the second half.
Maria Barnes received a yellow card midway through the half as the pressure on the Erin’s Isle defence continued to mount. Clarke subsequently kicked another free to put Templeogue ahead for the first time as injury-time approached.
TSS made the most of what was ultimately almost 16 minutes of injury-time.
Rachel Sheehan added a free before Doireann Doyle came forward to score from play. Erin’s Isle continued to battle, but repeated concessions prevented them from establishing any sustained attacking momentum.
The decisive score arrived in the closing stages when Laura Kelly struck Templeogue’s second goal. Kelly had already contributed a point during the first half and her late finish placed the result beyond doubt. Clarke completed an excellent individual performance by kicking the final point, bringing her personal tally to six points.
It completed a stunning turnaround for Templeogue Synge Street, who outscored Erin’s Isle by 1-8 to no score after half-time. Erin’s Isle had led by nine points during the opening half but were ultimately punished for failing to add to their total after the break.
After the game Dublin LGFA Fixtures Administrator Stephen Harbron presented the cup to Templeogue Synge St captain Laura Kelly who was also honoured as PTSB Player of the Match.
