Looking at previous form is a dangerous game: Jim Gavin

Dublin manager Jim Gavin insists his management select their side purely on current form ahead of Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Monaghan in Croke Park (6.0).

“It is always in the past what players have done. It’s over,” says Jim.

“All I’m interested in is what players are producing and how they’re performing in the present, because that’s all we can judge.

“Nobody can dictate what way the game is going. You have to plan, both teams will have plans ... but how players will perform, you just don’t know.

“So from a management perspective all you can go on is present form.

“I think if you look back at previous form, it’s a dangerous game - we don’t entertain that.”

Adding to the topic Jim adds that the most recent clash of the sides in the summer championship (2014, quarter-final) is now of no relevance.

“That game is in the past. After 25 minutes it was probably three-all, and we got a few lucky breaks and they got a bad injury to Colin Walshe and that changed the dynamic of the game.

“But that’s in the past. Both teams have changed dramatically from then in terms of personnel and in terms of their tactical approach. It has no relevance.”
