Minor glory for superb Na Fianna

Minor glory for superb Na Fianna

Mon, 3rd November 2014

Na Fianna kept their best display of the MHC until the final when they defeated Kilmacud Crokes by 15 points, 1-26 to 0-14, in Sunday’s Dublin MHC ‘A’ final at O’Toole Park.

Matthew Oliver was the scorer-in-chief for the St Mobhi Road outfit while his team-mate Seán Ryan starred when scoring 1-4 from play and their fellow Dublin minor Eoghan McHugh contributed a handsome six points (all from play).

Na Fianna, with wind advantage, dominated most of the opening half and led 0-13 to 0-6 at the break.

Crokes briefly threatened on the restart to rally but a string of five unanswered points through Ryan and Oliver pushed the Glasnevin side well clear.

Kilmacud cut the deficit with points from sub Seán Keating and Fergal Whitely to leave seven points separating the sides with just over ten minutes to play.

Eight minutes from time Ryan grabbed the only goal of the game to cap a fine individual and team showing.
