Oak Bench Unveiled in Memory of Shane O'Hanlon at Spanish Golf Course

Oak Bench Unveiled in Memory of Shane O'Hanlon at Spanish Golf Course
Thu, 22 October 2026

Dublin GAA proudly remembered the great Shane O’Hanlon last weekend.

Shane’s wife, Mary, and many friends and colleagues travelled to the Fairplay Golf Resort & Spa in Cadiz, Spain – the resort where Shane had spent his final days, planning a training camp for the Dublin Senior Footballers in February 2024 before his untimely passing.

A beautiful oak bench was commissioned, featuring a handcrafted image of the Dublin GAA crest. This bench will now reside permanently on the first tee box of the resort's stunning golf course.

The bench's inscription reads "Leave it with me and I'll get back to you on that."

Former Dublin County Board Chairman Mick Seavers said “myself & my wife Maeve were absolutely delighted to travel to Cadiz last weekend to honour the memory of our good friend, and true Dublin GAA great, Shane O’Hanlon.

"The bench is a stunning piece of craftsmanship and will take pride of place on the first tee at the Fairplay Resort in Cadiz.

"I’m sure it will bring a smile to many faces, particularly for Dublin golfers who will encounter it in the future.

"To have Shane’s wife Mary with us, along with many other Dublin GAA colleagues and share so many memories of Shane was very special and will be something we will fondly remember for a long time to come.”

Shanes contribution to Gaelic Football in Dublin was truly monumental. His memorial bench is a fitting tribute to Shane’s legacy.

The bench's inscription reads "Leave it with me and I'll get back to you on that."- a favourite saying of our beloved Shane.
