Philly rarin’ to go following injury lay-off

Tue, 5th March 2019

Dublin defender Philly McMahon is rarin' to go following a long injury-enforced lay-off.

The Ballymun Kickhams man has not featured for the Dubs in any of their 2019 games owing to a hand injury but returned to competitive action for his club at the weekend against Thomas Davis in their AFL1 tie.

“It was the first game that I've played since the injury, so I'm fully back now,” said Philly.

“I broke my third metacarpal, sparring in the off-season, I hit someone's elbow. It was boxing - I was out for two-and-a-half months.

“I was hoping to be back for Mayo, but one side of the bone wasn't healed so I had another four weeks on top of that then.

“But do you know what, it's been great. I've been able to get my fitness levels up to a level that I've never been at, pre-season into the league.

"It's just about getting match sharpness now and I just need to see how that transfers onto the pitch,” added Philly.
