PREVIEW: Dublin v Derry- All-Ireland SFC Round 3
By Conor MartinTue, 10 June 2025

Dublin must win this weekend in order to keep their All-Ireland Senior Football Championship summer in their own hands, when they take on Derry in the final round of the All-Ireland group stage in Newry on Saturday evening (throw-in 6:30pm).

Dessie Farrell's Dubs have one win out of two to their name in the All-Ireland SFC- the victory coming against Galway in the opening round, before suffering defeat at Croke Park against Armagh last time out.

Cormac Costello and Paddy Small were Dublin's leading lights on what was a frustrating day for the Boys in Blue, who were unable to find a rhythm in front of the posts as we lost to the reigning All-Ireland champions.

Derry's league campaign earlier this year saw them relegated to Division 2 with just a point to their name, while their 2025 championship burst into life last time out against Galway.

Derry were well beaten by eventual Ulster champions Donegal in the preliminary round of the provincial championship.

Derry then put in a better performance in their first All-Ireland group game with Armagh, eventually succumbing to a four-point defeat.

Last time out, Paddy Tally's men had a six-point lead going into the final six minutes against Galway. However, they were hit by a late sucker punch when Galway scored two late goals.

However Brendan Rogers and Conor Doherty helped Derry recover to rescue a draw and point for their efforts.

Niall Loughlin and Conor Glass also found the net, and they, alongside Shane McGuigan, will be a threat Dublin must contain this weekend.

A defeat this Saturday could see Dublin's summer end. Derry are currently bottom of Group 4 and would leapfrog us should they win.

However, should Dublin lose, they still may qualify for the preliminary quarter-finals depending on the result in the group's other game between Galway and Armagh.

It's a big weekend for our senior footballers and you can back them in Newry by buying tickets here.
