PREVIEW: Dublin v Roscommon Allianz Football League

PREVIEW: Dublin v Roscommon Allianz Football League
Wed, 25 February 2026

Dublin resume their Allianz National Football League Division 1 campaign on Sunday afternoon (2.00) as they make the trip west to Dr Hyde Park to face an in-form Roscommon outfit.

The teams have experienced contrasting fortunes to date with Dublin having recorded a solitary victory from their four matches while Roscommon have impressed this season as they share joint second spot in the table.

An unfortunate Round 1 defeat in Kerry has subsequently been followed up with home wins against both Monaghan and Armagh before their thrilling victory against Galway last Saturday evening.

The Rossies trailed by twelve points at one stage of that clash in Salthill but goals from Daire Cregg and Enda Smith and the continuing excellence of Diarmuid Murtagh in attack saw them eke out a 2-16 to 0-21 success.

Scores have come freely for Roscommon throughout the year as they have amassed 8-70 in their four matches so far, a figure given added significance when compared to Dublin’s 4-57 over the same period.

The absence through injury of Con O’Callaghan for the Mayo match and the second-half of last week’s loss to Kerry has certainly been a factor in that regard and manager Ger Brennan will hope the team captain will be fit and available for Sunday’s contest.

O’Callaghan featured the last time that the teams met in Hyde Park during the league with the Dubs awarded three penalties on their way to a 1-22 to 0-16 victory.

Cormac Costello calmly converted the first, struck the butt of the upright with his second and opted to chip over for a point with his third attempt as Dublin eased home in the final quarter.

With Manager Dessie Farrell serving a suspension that day, Mick Galvin took the reins with Costello proving the star turn as he finished the contest with 1-13 to his name.
