PREVIEW: Go-Ahead Ireland Senior 1 Football Championship Round 2
By Conor MartinThu, 21 August 2025

It's time for the second round of the Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Senior 1 Football Championship, as a summer of club championship football continues.

The action begins with Group 2 and Group 4 at Parnell Park on Friday night.

First, Castleknock take on Ballymun Kickhams at 6:45pm and that's followed by Kilmacud Crokes and St Judes at half past eight.

Group 1

In Group 1, the two teams that won their first game of Championship 2025 play the first game of round two action football action.

Ballyboden St Endas play Ballinteer St Johns at Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon; that one throws-in at 3:30pm.

Boden comfortably beat Na Fianna 4-23 to 3-9 in their first game, and they had Darren O’Reilly and Daire Sweeney to thank for putting them in good stead. Despite Na Fianna bringing themselves into the game, James Holland's goal pushed Boden into a healthy 3-15 to 2-3 interval lead.

The game was completely settled in the second-half thanks to a 43rd-minute goal from Ryan O’Dwyer. Ballyboden will now look to follow up on that win this weekend, as their southside rivals Ballinteer.

Ballinteer are also looking to make it two wins from two; they won 1-23 to 1-11 against St Vincents in the opening weekend.

Mark McNally and Johnny Quirke helped them into a four-point lead, with Jack Lundy adding to the scoreboard after the break. Substitute Liam Fenton also used his pace to break away and find the net and put the icing on the cake of an impressive win with a goal.

Na Fianna and St Vincents meet at Naul looking for their first points of the season.

Na Fianna's Brian O'Leary bagged a hat-trick in their defeat to Ballyboden and will look to be a threat again this time around, as will Vinnies' captain Gavin Burke, who found the net in their defeat to Ballinteer.

Group 2

Castleknock are the only side in Group 2 to have taken maximum points from the opening round of the Championship. Eoin Sawyer found the net twice, while Kevin Stephenson added the third goal in their win over Whitehall Colmcille. Castleknock also had Ciaran Kilkenny, Rob O’Shea, Luke Swan and Conor Chawke step up and make a difference in their 3-14 to 1-15 win over Whitehall Colmcille.

Their opponents at Parnell Park on Friday are Ballymun Kickhams, who played out a thrilling 2-15 apiece draw with Templeogue Synge St on opening weekend. Goals from Paddy Small and Dillon Keating helped them earn a point from their opening game.

As mentioned, Templeogue drew in their first championship outing of 2025, and they'll be hugely encouraged from that performance going into their game with Whitehall Colmcille, with the likes of Niall Scully, who racked up eight points, and Luke O’Brien, who scored 2-2, particularly impressing.

Whitehall, on the other hand, need to get points on the board; otherwise, their championship ambitions will come to an abrupt end after two games.

Group 3

Raheny take on Thomas Davis at O'Toole Park on Saturday, with both teams going in search of their first points of the Championship after they suffered opening-day defeats. Brian Howard kicked a brace of two-pointers for Raheny in the first-half of their defeat to Cuala, while goalkeeper Rob Hennelly also impressed, but Cuala were too good as Raheny lost by 14 points.

Thomas Davis went down by three points in their defeat to Lucan Sarsfields, with Chris Sallier being a key player for the Tallaght club.

Cuala and Lucan Sarsfields meet in Group 3's other game, with the pair looking to build on their impressive wins the last time out.

The O'Callaghan brothers, Con and Niall, stole the show in the win over Raheny, with Dublin captain Con bagging 3-6 as his goal in the 12th minute helped Cuala take the game by the scruff of the neck, while brother Niall also found the net.

Lucan have plenty of attacking talent in their ranks too; Jordan Delmar found the net, while Brendan Gallagher kicked two vital points in the closing stages as they saw off Thomas Davis.

Group 4

Kilmacud Crokes and St Judes are first up in Group 4 when they play on Friday night. Crokes will be hoping to back up their win over Clontarf. Paul Mannion and Dara Mullin impressed in that seven-point win and will be hoping to go two points clear at the top of the table by beating St Judes.

Tom Lahiff was the star man for Judes last time out in their win over St Sylvesters, and he'll be someone Kilmacud will have to keep close tabs on this Friday as both teams hope to keep their 100% start going.

Clontarf and St Sylvesters round off Group 4 action. Northsiders Clontarf went down to Kilmacud in Round 1, and now they and St Sylvesters will do battle, hoping to keep their quarter final ambitions alive.

Ed Stenson and Sean Guiden impressed in Sylvesters' narrow defeat to St Judes. Stenson found the net, while Guiden picked up nine points for himself, and they can get the job done this week against Clontarf.

Match tickets for the weekend's games are available here.

DubsTV will also show all four games from Parnell Park this weekend- Castleknock v Ballymun Kickhams, Kilmacud Crokes v St Judes, Ballyboden St Endas v Ballinteer St Johns and Cuala v Lucan Sarsfields.
