PREVIEW: Go-Ahead Ireland Senior 1 Hurling Championship Round 4
By Conor MartinThu, 28 August 2025

The Go-Ahead Ireland Senior 1 Hurling Championship returns for its fourth round of action this weekend, and the stakes are about to be raised as the race for the top four in groups 1 & 2 heats up.

Group 1

Reigning champions Na Fianna throw in this weekend's Group 1 hurling action when they take on Craobh Chiaráin on Friday night under the Parnell Park lights (8.30pm).

The Glasnevin club have won every game so far, while their opponents have lost every game so far.

Na Fianna were without Donal Burke, Seán Currie and AJ Murphy in their 2-21 to 1-21 win over Ballyboden St Endas last time out.

But they recovered from a sluggish start to lead by 2-13 to 1-11 by half-time with Tom Brennan scoring both goals.

He was then joined by Jack Meagher and Gavin King, who helped the northsiders continue their 100% start.

Their opponents have a lot of talent in their ranks despite not having a win to their name yet. Gary Kelly and Aaron Cooling found the net in their 5-24 to 2-14 defeat to Naomh Barróg, while Billy Ryan scored an impressive nine points.

The Group 1 action continues on Saturday with St Judes taking on Ballyboden St Endas at Parnell Park, while over at O'Toole Park, Naomh Barróg take on Lucan Sarsfields; both games throw-in at 5:30pm.

Judes have two defeats and a win to their name so far and currently sit in fifth and will leapfrog Ballyboden with a win this weekend, looking to bounce back from their defeat to Lucan last time out and keep their ambitions of a top four finish alive.

Boden, on the other hand, will be hoping to get back to winning ways and will be hoping the likes of David Gleeson and Niall McMorrow can help them avoid a third defeat in a row.

Naomh Barróg picked up their first championship win in the last round against Craobh Chiaráin, and they'll go into their game with Lucan with a confidence boost as a result.

Daniel Moore bagged a hat-trick inside the first-half in that one, while Eoin Hart and Nathan Kidd also rattled the net.

However, they'll face a tougher test against table toppers Lucan Sarsfields, who, like Na Fianna, have won every game so far.

Donie Flannery and David Mulqueen can find the net, while Charlie Keher and Paul Crummey are also an impressive pair of attacking options at Lucan's disposal that they will be looking to as they aim to continue their club's 100% start.

Group 2

Group 2 action on Friday sees St Brigids play St Vincents at 6:45pm at Parnell Park to throw-in the weekend's action in what could be the tie of the weekend.

Cian O’Sullivan scored six points from play for St Brigids but couldn't stop his side from losing 0-22 to 0-21 to Cuala last time out and will be looking to deal the Vinnies a second defeat in a row while getting themselves back into the top four.

Vincents, on the other hand, were comfortably beaten in the end by Kilmacud Crokes despite the efforts of Conor Burke and John Hetherton and sit in second going into Friday's game, hoping for a return to winning ways.

Kilmacud Crokes play Whitehall Colmcille on Saturday, hoping to keep their 100% record going; they're the only team in Group 2 to have won their first three games.

Oisín O’Rorke, Caolán Conway and Brendan Scanlan all starred in the well-earned win against St Vincents. Whitehall won't be easy opponents and will be full of confidence in putting in a performance and potentially pulling off a shock.

Eoghan O’Donnell raised a green flag in the win against St Oliver Plunkett/Eoghan Ruadh, while Cormac Costello turned the tide in Whitehall’s favour, and they pushed on through points by Conor Sheedy to earn their second win of the championship.

St Oliver Plunkett/Eoghan Ruadh must beat Cuala if they are to keep their championship ambitions alive; they've lost their first three games and take on a talented Cuala side who won their first game of championship 2025 last time out againsy St Brigids, after two defeats to open their championship campaign.

Jamie Conroy, David Treacy and Diarmaid Ó Floinn all had games to remember in their win against St Brigids, but now the Dalkey club must back up that win against their struggling opponents.

Match tickets for the weekend's games are available here.

There are also four games available to watch live and for free on DubsTV this weekend.
