Preview: Leinster Senior Hurling Championship- Dublin v Wexford

Wed, 17th April 2024

By Conor Martin

Dublin's summer of hurling gets underway this Sunday as Wexford host Micheál Donoghue's Sky Blues at Chadwicks Wexford Park (2pm).

Match tickets are available here.

Dublin will be hoping to progress on their 2023 Championship showing, where we finished third in the group stage with two wins, two draws and a defeat, including a two-point win over Sunday's opponents at Croke Park. Dónal Burke hit 0-13 that day.

Dublin picked up two wins in our Allianz Hurling League campaign this year and there were notable contributions from those in the blue of Dublin throughout the league.

Cian O'Sullivan scored 1-28 across the five games, having played every minute of League action for the first time in his career.

Our opponents Wexford finished fourth in the group stage of the Leinster Championship last year, picking up two wins against Antrim and an impressive win against Kilkenny to preserve their Leinster Hurling Championship status.

In the league, Wexford were unlucky to have just one win to their name, which they earned against Waterford; they also racked up three draws and a loss.

Séamus Casey was on fire in purple and gold in Wexford's five league matches, Wexford's top-scorer in four of said five games and was the fifth top-scorer in the league with a massive 3-26.

Keith Rossiter is expected to be able to call upon the experience of Lee Chin to cause Dublin problems after his recent injury and given his exploits over the years, Dublin will be fully aware of his threat.

The last five Championship encounters have seen Dublin come out on top on three occasions, with a draw and defeat featuring in the other two encounters.

The majority of the last five have been relatively close affairs, so if that's anything to go by, then this weekend's fixture isn't one to miss!
