Crumlin moved to within a point of league leaders Cuala as they got the better of Kilmacud Crokes (1) by 2-18 to 2-15 in their Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 3 encounter at Pearse Park on Tuesday night.
The hosts looked in trouble at the break as they trailed by ten points but they seized control upon the restart thanks to the strong wind at their backs and fine defensive displays by Peter Elliott, Conor Murphy, Kyle Clare and David Kellett.
Lee Coleman top scored with 1-8 (0-6f) and with Kevin Elliott adding 1-2, they held on through vital points from Adam Doyle, Ryan Smith, Kevin Byrne and Peter Elliott.
Crumlin’s win sees them share second spot with a Whitehall Colmcille side that defeated Bray Emmets by 1-23 to 1-18 with leaders Cuala suffering their first defeat when falling to Kilmacud Crokes (2) by 5-19 to 2-18.
In the Bogies, Naomh Fionnbarra ended their three-match winless streak when outscoring Round Towers Clondalkin by 4-16 to 2-17.
There was never much to separate the teams throughout but with Towers reduced to fourteen in the final quarter, the hosts availed of that numerical advantage to secure the victory.
The likes of Adam Milne, Preston Cowan and Ruairí McGrath worked tirelessly for a Fionnbarra team that raised green flags through Tommy O’Neill, Jay Roe and Oscar Ó Briain.
Another side that picked up their first win since Round 1 were Scoil Uí Chonaill, who overcame lowly Setanta in Poppintree.
The visitors were indebted to both Neil O’Flynn and Oisín Benham in defence, with the latter converting a massive free from inside his own 21-yard line.
Barry Cushen also caught the eye with three points from sideline balls and his three points from frees, augmented by a trio of Barry Kennedy points from play saw Scoil home safely.
AHL3 RESULTS: Bray Emmets 1-18 Whitehall Colmcille 1-23; Setanta 2-15 Scoil Uí Chonaill 3-18; St Vincent’s 3-16 Lucan Sarsfields 1-22; Crumlin 2-18 Kilmacud Crokes (1) 2-15; Naomh Fionnbarra 4-16 Round Towers Clondalkin 2-17; Kilmacud Crokes (2) 5-19 Cuala 2-18.
In AHL4, Skerries Harps finally got off the mark after some disappointing reverses as they edged Raheny by 2-18 to 2-15 in Skerries.
The hosts played against the elements in the first-half and managed to limit the damage through excellent displays at the back from Evan Walsh, Niall Connolly and Stephen Cooper with a goal by Seanie Graham seeing them trail by 1-9 to 1-8 at the break.
The contest remained on a knife-edge in the second-half but a Jack Drumm goal and late points by substitute Aidan Kehoe and captain Matt Dooley sealed the Skerries success.
Matters were far more straightforward in Ballycullen as O’Toole’s kept up their promotion ambitions when defeating Ballyboden St Enda’s by 0-24 to 0-13.
Both teams showed signs of rustiness after the three-week break but the visitors held the upper hand throughout thanks to the efforts of Andy Morris, Con Rock, Joe Hoey and Ryan Rooney.
Rock top scored with 0-8 as the Larriers eased away thanks to Rooney (0-5), Hoey (0-3) and further scoring contributions by Luke Fennelly, Hoey, Christy Mulligan, Morris, Scott Walker, Cian Wilson and Mikey Farnham.
There was another away win at Galtymore Road as Castleknock edged Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels by 2-13 to 1-13.
The visitors saw their 1-9 to 0-2 interval lead whittled away as Gaels took the lead with five minutes remaining.
However, the metronomic free-taking of Cillian Downey and a cracking Daniel Webb goal from Ronan Conway’s pass were enough to see Castleknock remain right in the mix, two points behind league leaders Na Fianna.
AHL4 RESULTS: Lucan Sarsfields 2-14 Kevins 1-12; Ballyboden St Enda’s 0-13 O’Toole’s 0-24; Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels 1-13 Castleknock 2-13; Clanna Gael Fontenoy 1-14 St Jude’s 1-9; Skerries Harps 2-18 Raheny 2-15; Na Fianna 4-17 St Peregrine’s 0-12.
