Round Up: AIB Leinster LGFA Club Championships

On Sunday (Oct 19th ) Kilmacud Crokes, runners-up to Kilkerrin-Clonberne in the AIB All-Ireland final last December, saw off Longford Slashers by 3-8 to 1-9 in their Leinster senior championship preliminary round tie.

The reigning provincial champions led at the break by two points and pushed on for victory winning in the end by 3-8 to 1-9 with Amy Conroy getting two goals. Michelle Davoran got the other goal while Niamh Cotter landed four points. Caoimhe Lohan raised the green flag for Longford Slashers in the opening half.

Kilmacud Crokes will now meet Portlaoise in the quarter-finals, with Meath’s Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels taking on Ballinamere Durrow from Offaly; Kildare’s St Laurences will play Milltown from Westmeath and Carlow’s Old Leighlin will face Wicklow champions Tinahely, with all four quarter-finals scheduled for next Sunday October 26th.

Meanwhile Dublin Junior champions Raheny have advanced to the Leinster semi-finals following their hard-fought win over Dromard of Longford on Saturday at DCU.

Raheny led at the interval by 1-04 to 1-01 with Anna Murphy bagging the Dublin sides first half goal. Dromard staged a second half comeback however a Carla Fitzsimons converted penalty (39th min) proved to be the decisive score as Raheny held on to win by 2-05 to Dromard’s 2-04.

Raheny will play the winner of this Saturday’s quarter-final clash between Muckalee (Kilkenny) and St Mochtas (Louth). On Saturday Muckalee defeated St Martins of Wexford by 5-11 to 0-08 to set up their quarter final clash with the Louth champions.
