Round Up: Go-Ahead AHL 1- 10th March

Mon, 11th March 2024

Goals proved pivotal in St Anne’s Park on Sunday morning as Raheny edged Ballyboden St Enda’s B by 3-8 to 0-13 in Round 2 of Division 1 in the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League.

The understrength hosts were indebted to the work rate of Liam Synnott and Brian Doolan while Ryan Coyne was especially solid between the sticks, including an excellent save from a 21-yard free.

Eoghan Smyth kept their scoreboard ticking over with their crucial goals coming through Conor Henry, Smyth and Adam McAweeney.

Kilmacud Crokes failed to find the net for the second successive game but had enough in hand to defeat 14-man Cuala by 0-19 to 0-12 at Silver Park.

The foundation for their victory lay in their full-back line of Callum McClean, Brian Sheehy and Dara Geraghty with Sheehy scoring a superb solo score near the end to cement his team’s success.

Breandán Ó Conaill was another Crokes player to impress, linking play from centrefield, and with Brendan Scanlan top scoring with 0-7, Kilmacud pulled away at the end with Caolan Conway contributing four points while Conal Ó Riain and Michael Roche added a brace apiece.

Crokes are joined at the top of the table by a Lucan Sarsfields team that dominated the third quarter en route to a 1-19 to 2-10 win over St Brigid’s at Russell Park.

A Charlie Mulqueen goal moved the visitors seven points clear by the 25th minute but the concession of two goals before the interval left a different complexion on the scoreboard.

Lucan bounced back well from these body blows with the likes of Ryan Clancy, Matt Coogan (0-5), Ciaran Dowling (0-3) and Kevin Fitzgerald leading the way.

Paul Winters and Donnacha Ryan battled gamely to keep the hosts in the hunt but six Sean Harkness points and a brace of Ben Coffey scores proved sufficient for Sarsfields by full-time.

Na Fianna picked up their first win of the year with twelve different players contributing on the scoreboard as they defeated Ballyboden St Enda’s by 1-23 to 1-9 in Páirc Uí Mhurchú.

Ciaran Heaney, Oisin Cullen, Joe Kavanagh and Ben Gaughran all delivered influential performances for the Glasnevin side.

There was another away win at Tymon Park as Craobh Chiaráin also moved into joint top spot when edging Faughs by 3-10 to 0-18.

Given the tightness of the exchanges, the clean sheet kept by Kieran McGouran was paramount to Craobh’s success and there were other strong displays at the back from Eoin Forbes, Kevin Hetherton and Sean Brennan.

Darren Kelly, Billy Ryan and substitute Karl Sammon raised the green flags while Cian Derwin’s fine display was rewarded with a number of tidy scores.

The final fixture of the morning saw St Vincent’s and St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh retain their unbeaten starts as they drew 1-13 to 2-10 at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn.

Go-Ahead AHL1: Kilmacud Crokes 0-19 Cuala 0-12; Faughs 0-18 Craobh Chiaráin 3-10; St Brigid’s 2-10 Lucan Sarsfields 1-19; Raheny 3-8 Ballyboden St Enda’s B 0-13; Ballyboden St Enda’s A 1-9 Na Fianna 1-23; St Vincent’s 1-13 St Oliver Plunkett’s/ER 2-10.
