Round Up: Go-Ahead AHL 2- 6th April

Mon, 8th April 2024

Thomas Davis continue to lead the way at the summit of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 2 table following their comfortable 4-20 to 1-19 victory over Kilmacud Crokes at Silver Park on Saturday evening.

The foundation for their win lay at the back in the excellent individual displays of full-back Jamie McDonnell and centre-back Eoin Lambert while Anthony Barrett impressed at centrefield in addition to scoring three points from play.

Corner-forward Kevin Ward also caught the eye with a personal tally of 2-7 (0-5f) and with Davy Byrne (1-3), Kevin Mullarkey (1-0) and Bryan Keogh (0-3) also making significant contributions on the scoreboard, the visitors eased home through further scores by Davy Keogh, Luke Dempsey and Adam Waddick.

There is a log jam in second spot with Castleknock, Ballinteer St John’s and Naomh Barróg all preserving their unbeaten starts with wins against St Sylvester’s, Fingallians and Whitehall Colmcille respectively.

In Collins Avenue, Barróg were pushed all the way before eventually getting the better of Whitehall by 1-20 to 2-16.

The wind played havoc for the large part with the visitors indebted to Evan O’Brien (0-8) and Nathan Kidd (0-6) in keeping their noses in front.

Sean Doyle chipped in with a vital 1-2 from play with Dylan Duggan and substitute Finn McDonald also to the fore in their narrow win.

At the opposite end of the table, St Jude’s and Scoil Uí Chonaill registered welcome wins as they moved up the division following respective victories over Setanta and Erin’s Isle.

In Poppintree, St Jude’s recovered from the disappointment of two narrow defeats to beat Setanta by 3-23 to 2-17 with David O’Callaghan top scoring with 1-6.

O’Callaghan’s fortuitous goal from a free handed the visitors a dream start and they pounced for a second goal as strong work by Finbarr Wardick and Podge McNally was finished off by Michael Foley.

Leading by 2-9 to 0-7 at the break, St Jude’s added to their lead as Eoin Dolan flicked home from close range as Setanta found themselves facing a twelve-point deficit.

However, they finished the game strongly to place some late pressure on the winners but the scoring returns of McNally (0-4) and John Carty (0-3) alongside two points apiece from Ciaran Hogan and Eoin McLoughlin saw Jude’s home with nine points to spare.

On the Clontarf Road, dual player Andy Bunyan scored 2-1 in helping Scoil Uí Chonaill to defeat Erin’s Isle by 3-20 to 0-19.

Alan Cronin scored the third home goal while Jack Kennedy’s seven points included five scores from play.

The likes of goalkeeper Roán O’Halloran, Conor Coady, Éanna Ó Dálaigh, James Conway, Sean Flaherty and Ruairí Martin kept the hosts on the front foot with Barry Cushen (0-6), Rob Kennedy (0-3) and Brendan O’Connell (0-2) looking sharp in the scoring stakes.

Go-Ahead AHL2: Whitehall Colmcille 2-16 Naomh Barróg 1-20; Fingallians 0-12 Ballinteer St John’s 2-12; Setanta 2-17 St Jude’s 3-23; Castleknock 1-17 St Sylvester’s 3-8; Kilmacud Crokes 1-19 Thomas Davis 4-20; Scoil Uí Chonaill 3-20 Erin’s Isle 0-19.
