Round Up: Go-Ahead Ireland AFL 3 & AFL 4
Wed, 21 May 2025

Round Towers Clondalkin were pushed all the way before eventually accounting for Cuala by 1-14 to 1-11 in their Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Football League Division 3 encounter at Ticknick Park on Tuesday night.

The visitors missed a number of presentable chances in the opening-half and were indebted to goalkeeper Aaron Leahy, who made a wonderful save to limit the damage, as Cuala led by 1-7 to 0-7 at the break.

Round Towers were a different proposition in the second-half as they began to seize control of matters with much of that down to their influential youthful midfield pairing of Harry Leech and Matthew Behan.

Liam O’Connor was equally impressive when introduced from the bench and with the evergreen Ian Ward once again highlighting his importance to the team with their goal, Towers kicked on for a deserved three-point win.

Elsewhere, Clanna Gael Fontenoy and St Maur’s maintained their narrow lead at the top of the table as they enjoyed comfortable home wins against Ballymun Kickhams and Ballyboden St Enda’s respectively.

Go-Ahead Ireland AFL3: St Patrick’s Palmerstown 1-8 Ballyboughal 4-16; Cuala 1-11 Round Towers Clondalkin 1-14; Thomas Davis 0-13 Erin’s Isle 0-18; St Finian’s Swords 1-8 Clann Mhuire 0-19; St Maur’s 2-15 Ballyboden St Enda’s 0-10; Clanna Gael Fontenoy 3-17 Ballymun Kickhams 3-7; Clontarf 2-13 St Anne’s 2-14; St Margaret’s 4-13 Trinity Gaels 0-20.

In Go-Ahead Ireland AFL4, goals proved pivotal as Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels pipped Lucan Sarsfields by 2-15 to 0-20 at the 12th Lock.

There was little to separate the teams throughout with Conor Forrester and James Nolan impressing in the away defence while Ciarán Norton and Darragh Kelly combined well throughout at midfield.

The likes of Dylan Kearns, Fiach Lupton and Barry Reilly kept the Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels account ticking over and with Kearns and Lupton also netting, they confirmed their win through an excellent penalty save from Jamie Devins in the closing minutes.

At Blakestown Road, three goals in the early stages set the tone for St Peregrine’s as they defeated Geraldine P. Moran by 4-15 to 4-9.

The hosts built up sizeable leads at the start of each half but on both occasions, Gers clawed their way back to leave the contest delicately poised in the final quarter.

However, St Peregrine’s secured their win through late points by Michael Meehan and Isaac Quinlan with midfielder Eoin McDaniels and full-back Aaron Leonard hugely influential in their victory.

Go-Ahead Ireland AFL4: Lucan Sarsfields 0-20 Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels 2-15; O’Dwyer’s 2-12 KilmacudCrokes 0-10; St Peregrine’s 4-15 Geraldine P. Moran 4-9; Garristown 2-10 St Sylvester’s 2-11; Man O’War 0-23 Fingal Ravens 0-14; St Finian’s Newcastle 3-9 Ballinteer St John’s 2-15; St Vincent’s 1-16 O’Toole’s 2-9; St Jude’s 2-16 Castleknock 3-20.
